Columbus Satnav retrofit

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Local dealer has told me that the Columbus satnav cannot be retrofitted to a scout (which has multifunction steering wheel & maxidot):(. Does anybody know any differently, or is it just one of those things the dealers will not do?

Oh and if it can be done, any ideas of cost?

Why would it not? Personally I just think they don't want to do it. It can be ordered from the factory with all those together, why not seperate. Plus the maxidot can display the directions

That's what I thought/assumed, so was a bit surprised by response. Will try another dealer tomorrow perhaps.

Octavia-vrs.com has a fitting guide IIRC, compiled by the local friendly neighbourhood vrStu. It's for the previous version of the satnav, but it should be the same.

I have retrofitted Columbus in my vRS - No problem at all. Biggest problem is getting one.

I suspect they don't know enough about it.

when i asked my local dealer and skoda uk about this i was told it couldnt be done due to it requiring a different tuner and diiferent cables but i think they dont really know enough about it to give a proper answer:confused:

The columbus is fitted with diversity antenna (Two) but that isn't a problem to overcome.

Andrey (tallion) also has one in his vRS and there will soon be a couple more as well.

Thanks Stu. Had a look at the instructions on your website for the MFD2 and if the installation of the MFD3 is no more complex than that, I "should" be able to do it myself... A future project ;)

Yes it is very, very similar.

Shouldn't take you more than 30 mins.

will be able to let you know about a dealer fitting it on Friday pm as mine is going in on Fri am to get it done.

Big thanks to Stu for the unit

True it is master, no more than 30 mins it will take.

Such a thing of beauty it is, will be taking it out to donate it to new motor

Sorry you missed out "extreamly knowledgable, and very helpful"

In my experience - when dealer says "no" and Stu says "yes" my money is with Stu

I second that. In my case dealer told that the MaxiDot retrofit is not possible, Stu said yes it is. And guess what, Stu was absolutely correct and now I have a working, beautiful MaxiDot on my car which Stu supplied :)

My dealer said I can't have a DSG vRS with four-wheel drive.

"Dear Stu, could you fix it for me ...?"

4 wheel drive no problem. Just buy yourself a donar 4x4. DSG might be more difficult. :P

Wow!

I might have to hold you to that, but something makes me think it will be more involved than just taking the dash off!

Well stop fecking helping people then!

my dealer fitted it in about half hour, although he was a bit puzzled by the fact it was in Czech. Fair play tho he offered me a car if I wanted to leave it with them and they'd sort it out over the course of the day. I managed to sort it myself in about 5mins (never realised my Czech was that good)
