Poor FM signal

Featured Replies

Hi, does anyone have an idea to solve the problem with poor FM signal on Stream radio? Normally you can listen to radio stations just only in the big cities, but in the country side - no way. The radio can not find any preset stations

Previous O2 had the same radio Stream and it worked fine

Do you have the original whip antenna on the roof? If you have a possibility to check the fault codes from the radio, it shows if the antenna connection is malfunctioning. This needs to be done at the dealers or with a Vag-Com if you have access to that.

I do have the original one on the roof, but I have no access to the Vag-Com :(

Thanks anyway - will ask the dealer to fix this under warranty.

There were some flash updates for the radio SW but I figure yours maybe a newer car so shouln't be affected.

Atleast you can ask them to check the fault codes for antenna connection.

The reason I'm insisting on this is that I changed my antenna to the VW Shark fin one and immediately got bad reception when away from any city area. The radio showed a fault code "Antenna open or closed circuit". Radio transmits the voltage for the antenna amplifier through the antenna wire.

The shark fin didn't have internal amplifier circuitry like the original whip has. When I re-installed the whip antenna and cleared the fault codes it didn't show up anymore and the reception got much much better.

Usually all O2 radios have pretty good signal strength no matter where you are, but with Roomster, it's a different story. It's radio reception is pure sh**e. Couldn't get the radio functioning properly even in city area.

Oh, and this might be a stupid question, but do you have the automatic frequency seek active on Stream options? AF ON and seek DX?

AF was ON, but the other was seak Local. Just changed for DX, but don't know if it helped.

I have just booked my car into the dealers to have the radio reception looked at. I think the arieal base has started to corrode.

Interestingly via Vag-COM it reports the following fault code:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Address 56: Radio Labels: 1K0-035-1xx-56.LBL

Part No SW: 1Z0 035 161 B HW: 1Z0 035 161 B

Component: Radio FO3 012 0023

Coding: 0000402

Shop #: WSC 73430

1 Fault Found:

00856 - Radio Antenna

011 - Open Circuit - Intermittent

Excatly the same error I was having with the Shark fin antenna. And with that the radio reception was rubbish.

I don't think the aerial base is very easy to corrode. It's very well protected. Maybe the cable plug has come off from the aerial?

If you search back thru earlier threads re poor reception on Stream radios you will find a lot of info as the fault is world wide.

The aerial base gets moisture into the electronics and starts to corrode badly and then your problems start. Skoda will deny it happens or is even a problem, but changing the complete aerial usually solves the problem.

Was your radio out?, fairly easy to break the connector at the back of it, maybe worth checking the easy stuff first ;)

The first check I would make is to hold the menu button in for 10 seconds, this will give you a display showing signal strength, mono / stereo status and most important the top left value of ANT on or off. If you have ANT off (antenna) it is most likely that the amplifier in the antenna base is defective or the coax lead between the radio and the antenna faulty. A voltage is passed through the coax cable to power the amplifier in the antenna base. My dealer changer the coax, then the stream radio with no improvement, but as soon as the antenna was replaced the problem was fixed. Hope this helps you.
