Traded my vRS SE no.316 for a Roomster Scout last month, as I needed more space (family weekend 'mud-bus'). Spotted it at my local Liverpool dealer: It was 6mths old with 7k miles on the clock.. got them down to £9995 , they're just over £14k new. Gutted to see the SE go, but the Roomster is growing on me. It's a1.9tdi, 105hp - detuned version of the Fabia's engine.

Bluefin/remaps etc are readily available too.. 130-40hp?

4 wheel drive.....

This looks very interesting! 170bhp and 300 lb/ft I understand? With a combined 50mpg reported. Should be pretty quiet too, as they've kept with a boxer design...

Coming out in Forester and Legacy first, with Impreza to follow. Wonder if they'll offer an STi-D eventually :rubchin: :D

EDIT: Not long to wait for more info, it would seem :)SUBARU | What’s coming?

My vRS is just coming up to 20 months old and has 22k on the clock. I really want to change but am struggling to think of a suitable replacement. I'm doing 60 motorway miles a day and enjoy the odd B road frolics. I'm thinking I need to sacrifice either the economy or the performance as I can't find a blend of the two quite like the Fabia offers. I was thinking of maybe a 2nd hand Octavia Vrs (TDi) but not sure I'm going to find one in my price range. Argh decisions!

Toyota Auris 180 ....

I looked at those and didnt particulary like them, i opted for a new Octavia vRS instead. Hopefully i will get it next weekend :)

I swapped for a Mazda 3 aero MPS which is a real beats! personally saty away from the corsa, propper little **** car! I wanted to switch to petrol as changed job and was no longer banging on the miles. I looked at focus ST, S2000, 350Z Old model S3, old Model R32, GTI, clio 197 (briefly), VXR and chose the mazda 3 MPS aero.

Got it for 14k from someone who really needed to sell it so good priice as well. Like the VRS bang for buck nothing touches the sides!

Just replace it with another one!

I like the thought if the imprezza diesel..... may have to have a go, and consider it for my shopping list!

According to Car Magazine:

"The 148bhp [diesel Impreza] engine is not going to cost the competition a lot of sleep, so Subari is already working on upgrades for 177bhp and 204bhp. Still not enough grunt? Then stand by for next year year's flat six, earmakred for the next Legacy and the Tribeca crossover. Sources say there'll be a 240bhp 3.0-litre and a 300bhp 3.6. That's not bad for a company that has used diesel so far only to heat its office buildings."

Not posted many times so be gentle....

After reading the replies I just wanted to drop this in :

Before I bought my Furby last year, I looked long and hard at the competition before taking the plunge. My reason for a Furby over the likes of a Fiesta ST, Renault 197 and so on was the 'best of both worlds' factor.

By this I mean the Furby in standard form is a reasonably quick motor, but costs a lot less to run, insure and service than most of the cars mentioned on this thread.

It's a trade off between raw power and running costs. Sure, if you want to race everyone off the lights because it makes you feel big, then buy any of the cars mentioned. Yes, they will be fast but you can watch the fuel guage drop when you boot it. Not so on a Furby, drive it sedately or like a maniac and there's not a great deal of difference in the economy.

Surely most people have bought a Furby for the excellent mix of performance and economy that makes it such a fun car to drive. Not to race everything on four wheels to boost one's ego ?

When I read these kind of threads I get the impression that the real reason people buy a Fabia VRS gets lost in talk of 'my cars faster than your car' or 'my bhp is much higher than yours'

At the end of the day the question asked was what car to go for next. Surely the answer to this is dependant on whether the guy wants another Fabia VRS or would like a different car altogether.

This sounds obvious but what I'm saying is, the VRS is a different type of car to a high bhp, gas guzzling ST, 197, Scooby etc etc. It's a sensible, fun, warm hatchback that doesn't cost the earth to own, and we shouldn't compare it to these cars.

So, if you want to stick to a fun diesel car that doesn't cost the earth then get a VRS SE. It's worth it for the extras.

Or, if you want to break the bank, have poor fuel economy, attract unwanted attention and pay through the nose for insurance, then buy pretty much any high bhp petrol gas guzzler that does 0-60 in 7 secs or less

To put it in perspective is shelling out all the extra cash worth it to shave 2-3 seconds off your 0-60 time ????

Maybe it is, but not to me, just my opinion folks.

I'm waiting to see if the rumours about the honda civic type r diesel bear fruit.

I'm shelling out the extra cash so i can have a car that actually handles well!

Like i said to the saleman when i test drove the 197, I dont care about straight line speeds, i just want something that can go round corners properly.

New car bought and in the drive.

Oh boy does it make you appreciate the Furby after a 4 hr motoway drive in my (wifes) new car! VRS is a top car especially since I am selling one! I dont doubt I will return to one.

FOR SALE

Mint Condition, 55 Plate VRS (First Reg 24/12/05), 35600 miles. £8500ono. PM me for more info but on Autotrader & Pistonheads.

The Answer to my Question is.....

Clio Trophy! I've had some good handling cars in my time E30 M3, 306 & 309 GTI but this really is on a different plane. I think I can live with the extra £600 a year in fuel, tax & insurance. An my name is Not a Diesel!!! after all.

Congrats' mate. What's it like on the Motorway then?

:wrthless:

To late now but a car I stumbled across a couple of weeks ago which I didn't know existed. Only spotted it since looking at Renaults.

The Renault Sport Megane 175 DCi. I don't know much about the car but if I ever want another diesel I will defo take a look at one. Looks good imho. 0-60 8.3 sec with a max speed of 137mph /175 BHP.

Price £16K from an internet broker or maybe £15K for an ex demo.

Ive got to stop talking Reno:O Look forward to pics of the Trophy (oh ****e there I go again)

Another thought, Astra CDTi SRi saw one today and it was sexy ;)

What about cars of comparable price?

None of the ones mentioned so far are as affordable as the VRS.

GP sporting is... cheaper than a fabia 2 sport!

The QE2 handles better than a fabia:rofl:

LMFAO.

In standard form anyway.

Chased a new 207 (non sporty one) round a roundabout the other day. Makes you realise how well them little French things go round corners compared to our tubby German things. Even with a RARB I was pushing it trying to keep up.

LOL,

I'd have crashed into the roundabout or a signpost in mine. (no RARB)

I used to have a 306 which was ace at handling, i have had to tame my driving with the vRS :thumbdwn:

Ah yes, forgot it was you that did. I too had the HDi DTurbo as a company car for 18 months. Awesome handling machine. The Fabia is a bathtub in comparison.

If I had to replace it (which I will in about 1.5 years time when it's paid off and SWMBO takes ownership) I will be wanting something that handles better and is bigger. I'm thinking Mondeo, Mazda 6 etc. My only problem is that IU can't decide whether to stick with diesel or not. It's currently 7p more a litre, the Ford diesels have horrendous fuel system problems (and are poor on fuel) and the Mazda ones are simply PSA supplied ones which aren't gutsy enough and shove out loads of CO2 (check out the stats for the 136).

Wanted a Mondeo ST TDCi but after hearing horror stories on injectors etc I'm thinking again....

Someone mentioned an Astra SRi CDTi? They look nice but might not be big enough. Vectra? Ugh....don't know if I can bring myself to do it.

Focus? Hmm...back to Ford engines and they look a bit dull. Good car otherwise though.....

Decisions decisions....

I think if i had the choice it would be the astra sri cdti.

What i plan to do is get a nice standard 205 1.9 gti and keep it as my 'fun' weekend car
