discounted...general dealer price is about £11-11.5k (for the GP sporting in 1.9 m-jet... cheaper for the 1.4 turbo petrol!) , list is £12,700, the fabia 2 sport is a bit above £12k I think..... (list..... I don't know what discount they will do at skoda, but they'd have to include ESP, 6 airbags, bluetooth, mp3 ect ect (which would take the price WAY over) and magically make it NCAP 5 to compete with the fiats standard equipment though! ;)

and doesn't the astra use my engine?! (I know the astra 888 has a similar tune to the 195bhp bravo I posted before..) I know the vectra does in 1.9 cdti 150 bhp flavour, and the corsa in the 1.3 version, they buy them from fiat......

I also have a vaxhall power steering pump..... the appear to be sharing some things.....

the new ford KA basically is a fiat 500! same platform, same engines ect.......... although ford are very sure to state, its going to be their suspension, so will handle much better

The QE2 handles better than a fabia:rofl:

QE2's blo0dy good in the wet ;)

I was going to get a Fabia 1.4tdi sport in the summer, but after reading this post and looking at Broadspeed im getting a 1.9 GPS. Cant believe how cheap they are, if the local dealer will match broadspeed price im saving £2200 over the Fabia broadspeed price. Never really considered it being a FIAT, but for the money and spec its a winner in my view, plus a common rail and 5 star safety. Shame its only a 3 door, happy i can afford it too, the 130bhp GPS is £400 cheaper for me to insure than a second vrs, insane. Thinking with my wallet on this one, i love the Fabia but the money and extra performance will be a winner for me.

Thankyou very much for opening my eyes Sharkrider

Had a look at Punto GP Sporting the other day and it is a lovely car and well kitted out but the two things which let it down for me were the very light steering and also the obtrusive A pillar. Shame as I really liked the rest of it. :D

Yeah, admitedly i havent had a chance to go and sit in one yet so my opinion is open to change. But simply looking at facts and figures it wins over the Fabia hands down for me. Now i just need to decide whether to be sensible and have the 63mpg 1.3d or the 130bhp 1.9 hehe. After all i can be sensible when im older.

I'd also recommend having a look at the Panda 100. :D

I love them! My mate has one and they are great fun, lovely crackling little engine, great to rev the nuts off it, how a small italian car should be. Id prefer a diesel though and it was it is, a small car, need a little more room for the dog and *gulp* small additions to the family that may be coming. Which brings around the three door problem, stupid real-life practicalities eh.

lots of people state this, and I admit, when I moved to to the GP from the vRS, I didn't like the steering.... however, now its turned around on me...

when I drive a vRS now, the steering seems heavy and lifeless (by that I mean no where near sharp enough) the GP is so sharp when changing direction, its a joy! also, even though light, it still has feel....... you can still feel every little thing the front tyres are doing

and snownrock: when you get the GP, it WILL feel slower than the vRS... its due to the progressive nature of the power delivery, but I ran mine with some vRS's at meets pre remap, and it was almost exactly the same performance (in a straight line) as unmodified vRS's, and post remap, it keeps up with remapped vRS's no problem..... so don't let the fact that there is no big PD shove in the back put you off... its worth it not to have all the noise and vibration in the cabin! lol...

oh, and make sure you find a good dealer, most of them suck!

another plus point, I'm having my 36,000 mile service on thursday, and I haven't had to replace any brake pads yet... at 33k in the skoda, the skoda garage was wanting new discs and pads ALL ROUND, although JBS assured me, the discs would do two sets of pads, and they were right.....

replacement items so far..

1) 3 sets of front tyres...

warrenty work:

1) new drivers door handle

2) new drop links

3) new drivers seat rails...

running as new at the moment

Cheers for the advice, having driven vrs's but currently only owning a 1.4 68hp Fabia the sporting would be a great improvement in performance, especially after a remap :D(depending on insurers). I would love to remap if not for the performance, for the increase in mpg.

Im sure most of the dealers are useless, but aslong as they will match drivethedeal (£10949 - with options, amazing price!) im happy.

I found the A pillar in the Bravo is the same... making the cornering fogs pretty much useless.:thumbdwn:

all you do is move your head! it becomes second nature after a while... most NCAP5 cars are like this... its due to the huge strong safetey cage protecting you! it really isn't an issue... and as for the fog lights... gimmick..... shouldn't be used anyway in conditions of more than 100m visibility, and I'm generally on the road 8-10 hours a day, an i have never had the conditions to use them in the GP, and maybe once in th vRS in two years and 80k... how often do we get fog that restricts visibility below 100meters, and then how many of us drive in it?

I don't have the same problem with the A pillar on my NCAP5 rated Focus :D

do you have airbags in the pillars on the focus? I've driven all the models of focus, and I can honestly say I haven't got in one and thought.. "wow, i can actually see now! "

the way to avoid these things, is that while you're on the way to the fiat dealership to purchase a fiat, would be to remember that you are infact not an idiot, and that you would be better served gouging out your own spleen with a wooden spatula, than owning said fiat
