Oily Hoses

Featured Replies

I have noticed today that the large intercooler hose that runs down the left side of the engine has oily misting on the joint in the middle and the actual outside of the rubber hose that point down towards the intercooler itself was covered in oily sludge. It isn't dripping everywhere or anything like that, but was enough to make a complete mess of my hands.

Upon further inspection, the underside of the joint between the air intake hose and the MAF unit also has oil misting on it.

The car is barely a year old. Is this normal and if not, any ideas what it could be?

Regards

Mark

its perfectly normal..... there isn't really a seal until the intercooler hoses come under boost (the way the clips work) so you get some leakage... there is always a bit of oil in that system, but its nothing to worry about.... mine was like that for 80k, never even had to top it up! :)

you don't however want oil on the maf...... the "cage mod" do a search, keeps the maf nice and clean

I took the top of the air box off and wiped away a light sooting from the plastic mesh on the MAF. The misting was on the intake pipe where it clips onto the maf.

I've unplugged the maf and both cable connector and socket are squeaky clean.
