Tyres Letting Out Air Slowly

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I had 4 continental tyres put on my Fabia about 3 yers ago.

I do very little mileage, but I have noticed each weekend that the tyres are slightly under inflated and I have to add more air into them.

Does anyone know how this happens? Are they expensive to replace

is ur alloy in good condition?

the air does leak if it is in a really bad condition :)

how little is little mileage

air will gradually escape.... but when I say gradually I mean a couple of PSi every few months, can escape around roundabouts etc

how flat do they go?

could be a buckled alloy

or ur alloy paint bubbled like mine....

but 3 yrs old is a bit premature innit

apart from the obvious - fairly common things include tiny bit of dirt in the valves allowing a slow leak. You could unscrew the inner valve and replace it with a new one (Halfords?).

quick and cheap.

If it still does this - it's possible that you have some crud on the alloy's inner rim - it'd need the tyres to be removed from the alloys, alloys cleaned and the tyres re-fitted...

mine was a faulty valve might be worth a check at a local tyre place.

I spoke to a tyre fitter when I had this problem on one of my tyres a couple of years back. He said alloys rarely leak and it's more likely to be the valves. He recommended fitting metal valves instead of the standard (rubber?) ones which are prone to leaking.

The tyre fitter re-valved, and rebalanced my tyre for about a tenner.

Have you checked that you don't have a slow puncture? Is it all of your tyres or just one?
