Furby - 1 Crazy old women who doesn't use her eyes - 0

Featured Replies

Ok, so driving home tonight from work in my lovely vRS (Albeit with some dodgy wheel alignment, which i'm getting fixed tomoz) on the A194 heading towards a round-about, I was in the right hand lane of a dual-carriageway doing 70mph.

I'd just passed a slip road coming onto the carriageway whereby an Old Micra had pulled in between 2 cars, can't remember what they were now. Anyway i'm coming passed the first car, and heading up to the Women in the Micra and just as I get about 2 metres behind her, she decides that's a good time to pull into the right hand lane to overtakew the car infront of her. My first thought was to slam the brakes on, then thought at this speed and that hard the I'll prolly fishtail and the back end will come out, spinning me into the barrier at 70mph or worse, another car. My second thought was to sound my horn to let the blind bat know that I was there so she could quickly swerve back into the other lane.

Unfortunately all of that happened in about a second and I didn't think quick enough so had to literally swerve onto the far right side of the road (The barrier bit, seperating the two carriageways from each other) and onto the grass, narrowly missing the barrier and the Micra on either side by about 4 inches each.

Obviously I was shocked and couldn't believe what had just happened, I'm only 21 and not The Stig or anything so performing that manouvre at that speed hadn't been in my mind for the journey home from work :thumbdwn:

Anyway after that incident we got to the round about and I looked in my rear-view mirror (About 20 seconds after her pulling out on me) and she was just looking straight ahead, ignoring my views at her, no flash of the lights or hazard lights to indicate she was sorry or anything, so I figure "Oh, she must just be following me when I pull in here to see if i'm alright and apologise" so I pull over at the service station 10 seconds after the round-about and she just turns right at the round-about as if nothing had happened :mad:

I just sat there, trying to process what just happened lol, then went on my merry way home.

So yeah, I could've nearly died :P Obviously when I told my g/f the events I dramatised it a lot more whereby the big manly army guy was firing rockets at my little furby and i was dodging them all  Got a lot of sympathy from her :P:thumbup:

glad you're ok...

with ABS (and EBD and possibly brake assist depending on when you're vRS was made) you wouldn't fishtail, you should stop in a straight line :) (or wherever you steer to....)

near misses are always nicer than crashes!

It's always a Micra!

Watch them, I stay well away from them

They are always driven by Muppets and Leg irons (Along with Ford Ka's and Landrover Discovery's)

It's never nice to have a near miss. I was nearly the filling in a bus and a van sandwhich today, but have lived to tell the tale. Hurrah!!:D

Only 21?

How old is Lewis Hamilton?

Only 21?

How old is Lewis Hamilton?

yeah but he has more experience:D

All cars and persons in one piece:thumbup:

I had that with an 18 year old in his punto. I nearly crashed and he didnt say sorry or anything until I followed him to tesco car park and seriously lost my temper. Poor lad wouldnt get out of the car and actually started crying. I think he will be more careful now

I had a similar incident in the Corsa where someone decided to exit a roundabout whilst they were in the wrong lane, crossing two lanes to get to the exit - where I was.

My instinct was to use the car as a battering ram so I accelerated so I was alongside them and pushed them back into their lane just as they realised there were other cars on the road besides them.

Bit of a scuff to my car, but I don't worry about stuff like that.

If you treat everyone else on the road as idiots and expect the worst, you'll be pleasantly surprised most of the time. One thing to avoid where possible is sitting alongside people (especially on roundabouts) and try and make sure you have a safety bubble around you that you can brake/swerve into if needed. As Sharky says, ABS is designed to let you steer round an object whilst on the brakes. One other thing to remember is that the horn is less effective at high speeds.

Glad you're ok and just a bit shaken up - could have been a lot worse outcome

You've gone all 'Mad Max' of a sudden!

I resent that comment! My girlfriends got a ka and is a very good driver!:finger:

Id have to agree about the micra and disco's tho!:D

People need to be made to retake their test at 60, then have an "old persons test" done every 5 years consequentially. They just don't even have the brain power to think that they might need to pay attention to other road users. You can sit staring at them in their rear view mirror for 5 mins plus and they don't even notice you, or the fact they pulled out in front of you/cut you up or whatever.

Muppets.

That's when I was at PVD, so about 4 years ago. I thought I showed you the Toyota Celica red paint on the side of the arch?

Glad you squeezed through okay. I had a similar on the M1 - I was forced into the central reservation and avoided the armco by about an inch - guy behind me said he was sure I'd hit it. I sounded my horn and the woman in the corsa who'd pulled out on me swerved back the other way, got T-boned by a van and went under the back of a lorry. Amazing no-one was hurt.

IMO most drivers have their mirrors set wrong - the side mirrors are for looking either side, not directly behind. I learned that lesson driving a van for two years.

I've had that before, and also lumps of fence post that had fallen off a lorry flying at me at 70mph! Change of underwear required?!

Alex R I resent that I'm over 60 and drive a Fabia VRS and I always look where I'm going:D

i had something similar on a dual cariageway, i was going a little fast, maybe 120 a good few years ago now, and a woman pulled out in front of me, i had no choice but no brake as hard as i could, unfortunately she was doing about 50 and my speedo still read 80 as i went into the back of her, it caused me to spin out but luckily due to my car being so low all the damage to my car was a scuff on my bonnet which polished out, unfortunatley her rear bumper was all over the road.

meh, was her fault for pulling into my path, i was less than amused but the outcome left a smile on my face and perhaps put the thought into her head to pay attention to what she's doing.

Yikes, that's why I like to stick to the limits :) Of course i've proven that even that doesn't help sometimes lol!

Cheers for the comments folks, had the alignment sorted today and also rang up seat surgeons, booked in for the 25th March at about 8:30, looks like an early start for me that day then

Thats guaranteed 99% of the time its always a bloody Micra!!!!! i agree. I would have blocked that womans path and stopped and given her a few choices!!!:rofl:
