Milltec exhaust!

Featured Replies

Hi guys, hopfully getting one very soon!:)

Thou just speaking to swiftcover.com my insurance company they do insure "Stainless steel exhausts", thou ones that have no proformance gain! Which i was like how do you tell??

With me after a cat back system would there be much of a proformance gain?

So that they wouldnt insure me? As really i wait one for the sound!LOL!

Thanks Matt

The performance gain will be minimal maybe 5 bhp...So for the sake of the insurance just say no performance gain! If you want increased power up to approx 10-15bhp you need to geta high flow sport cat fitted.

miltec exhausts do sound a lot better than stock ones!

Thanks for that! Thats what i was thinking! the company is abit of a pain really as i wont be able to get FSD's till renew quote!

Cheers! Matt

I altered my insurance to allow for the miltec (turbo back decat) and told them it would be less than 10% gain which is quite true, the worrying thing is (especially for yourself declaring no gain) on the rollers we have seen std fabias hitting 140 - 150 bhp (15 % over expected) so if the insurance ever tested the car ........................

I see what you mean! Thou i would only have the cat back system not the from the turbo back! so would there be much gain?

I would doubt there would be much gain if you are keeping the standard cat. But like i say you could allready be producing 140 bhp so as far as the insurance is concerned that is 10 bhp (7%) unaccounted for :( That if they were being pedantic they could go looking for if they see you have modded the car but declared no power gains. (Admitedly this is a very unlikely scenario, and given the number of people running undeclared remaps etc ............)

I understand, I will have a look into it! And will speak to the insurance people!

Many Thanks! Matt

I'd love to see an insurance company rolling-road a written off vehicle to check the HP.

Plus, they dont specify if the horsepower is at the wheels or at the flywheel. 140bhp at the fly will probably not be far off 130 at the wheels.

I would declare the mod as no power increase personally.

Yeh I agree. Although I am also totally against modding a car without declaring it - if you did write off a car, and they decided to use a rolling road to test it....well I'd also like to see that because lets face it - if you have written off your car, I don't think it would be very safe to put it on the rollers. :P

ECU searching however...well thats another matter. And not a matter that would highlight an exhaust performance increase.

Plus, they dont specify if the horsepower is at the wheels or at the flywheel. 140bhp at the fly will probably not be far off 130 at the wheels.

They will always quote engine BHP (at the flywheel) rather than at the wheels.

In the event of an accident, their concern will be if you haven't been straight with them. If you have declared a stainless steel exhaust, and if you have a Milltek fitted, you're unlikely to have a problem. They're hardly going to put the car on the rollers to check.

If in any event you're worried about the car not being properly insured, etc. then be honest - tell them the brand of exhaust that's fitted, and the manufacturer quoted power gains. If they won't cover it, then you'll need to find an insurance company that will.

If you feel you're not being honest, then you cannot complain if they don't want to pay up if there's an accident.
