Tuning 100bhp Diesel

Featured Replies

Howdy folks,

I'm interested to find out how easy it is to tune a 100bhp 1.9 TDI to 180bhp. I've heard that all that is required is a VRS Exhaust/Intake Manifold and turbo. Of course with a remap to get her up to 180. Is anything else required? (Injectors, intercooler?)

Also, I think a bigger set of brakes would be sensible, which ones from the VAG bolt on without any mods?

Sounds along the right lines, but you might find that if you uprate the turbo the existing intercooler will be inadequate and you'll need a FMIC to get the best out of the turbo.

Unfortunately none of the VAG bigger brakes bolt onto the PD100 as it uses FS-IIII and the others use something else so there's a fair few bits you need to "bolt on" which might mean looking aftermarket offerings might be a better bet. I expect you'll also need a minimum of 16" wheels for the VAG brakes too... You might also consider some handling mods as my Fabia was a bit too wobbly as standard.

Chris

I think seeing how 180bhp is about the most you can realistically expect from the PD130 unit by remap alone, I think you'll need to look at the differences between your engine and the one in the vRS. Some things are more subtle than others - f'rinstance since the TDI only has a fixed-vane turbo AFAIK, I'm not sure whether the ECU would need to be replaced rather than just remapped to be able to control a variable-vane turbo. :(

But there are others on here who know far more about these things than I do, so you may be pleasantly surprised! :)

Welcome to Briskoda, by the way!

If it is the PD100 you can do a fair few things to make it get up tho that kinda power

didn't Jason tune the pd 100 to the max before putting the pd 130 in his?
