Removing the radio?

Featured Replies

I'm assuming you use the 2 slots on each side but is there a tool somewhere in the car that does this or is there something else i can use? Thanks in advance for any help.

2 halves of a hacksaw blade should do the trick or set of kenwood blade work as well.

Have a search there should be loads

Just been doing a search but couldnt find anything? saying that i am impatient and trawling through literally thousands of questions isnt how i want to spend my Saturday, i'd rather spend it on my back squashed into the drivers footwell whilst running in my seat wiring loom :D

Chunks of hacksaw blade work well - they need to be about 3" long. You push them in and keep them pushed in while you withdraw the radio.

Refine your search using the advanced button and go in the octy section

The easiest way to remove the radio is to go buy a pair of European car radio removers from Halfords - the proper job and they only cost a few quid.

However if you are intending to replace the Skoda radio with something more exotic beware that you need some other bits as well.

VAG vehciles have standard ISO radio connectors but the 12V live and 12V switched are reversed. You will do no damage by connecting up but when you switch off the radio and ignition it will forget its settings and radio stations.

VAG also provide power supply to the bee-sting antenna amplifier properly - up the co-ax, rather than having a seperate power wire. You will need an adapter.

You can but an antenna power adapter and a harness adapter for the power supply from Halfords. When I got them the harness adapter was £13.99 and the aerial adapter was £5.99. Doing it this way gives the advantage that the harness adapter has an output cable that provides switched 12V to feed the aerial amp.
