Mk I Octy vRS Warranty Query

Featured Replies

Hello Chaps,

I know i'm not a frequent poster on these forums, more of an awful (but endangered!) vulture, picking... anyway!

Since I bought my car last April, it's had an odd whine in 1st gear, I bought it used-approved and naively thought it was normal, as the sales guy on test drive smiled when I said "oh i like that sound!" :( I thought something like induction roar (ok i'm a fool).

Out of 1st, there's no noise. Car is still under warranty and has 62k on it, 54k when bought. I took it to the service and warranty guys in Camberley yesterday and they're going to take it apart and look, they agree it's either a bearing or broken tooth.

Now, they seem sure it'll be covered by the warranty which is great, however it was mentioned an "approver" or some such, may want to come and have a look and so it is possible it may NOT be approved.

I'm not too sure WHY they wouldn't approve the repair, and why they can't confirm this BEFORE taking it apart and thus tying me into the labour charge if they won't cover it.

Anybody got any words of wisdom for me? I've always driven it lovely and no smashing into gears, as I have this: a brain, and sympathy for the thing!

Any advice/insight/laughing at me will be much appreciated :)

Would imagine the 'approver' will depend on wether they can blame any fault found on 'wear and tear' :( good luck fella

Its gonna be tough at that mileage,

Is it a Skoda warranty or third party?

hey,

It's a Skoda Warranty, 2004 reg btw. Used Approved Warranty thing.

If it costs me, it = about 800 the chap said, which is a right... bugger.

I'm in two minds whether to part-ex it and get something else. I just wish I knew beforehand!

I think im right in saying as its out of factory warranty the approved warranty is a third party one, dont fancy your chances much. Damn difficult getting gearbox claims through.

Oh crikey, eh. If this gets seconded and perhaps thirded, I might go ahead and cancel getting it done... I hate loving cars! (and not having the money to not care!)

I'm not too sure WHY they wouldn't approve the repair, and why they can't confirm this BEFORE taking it apart and thus tying me into the labour charge if they won't cover it.

It's because they can't see what the cause of the fault is without taking it apart. It's the same with slipping clutches - not covered if it is worn out/burnt but covered if it is oil contaminated.

I was recently told by a dealer when we had a Fabia box replaced after the repair on the original one was no good, that it was Skodas polivy to repair gearboxes and VWs policy to replace them.

Been over my warranty docs, and it says it's by "Skoda UK". So is this not a 3rd party one then?

The way I see it, they'll likely (be able to) say "well, you crashed into 1st and smashed a tooth, so it's your own fault" and then i'll be forced to pay, which is simply awful, so i'm thinking perhaps leave it, and part-ex my way to a brighter and actually more expensive future! Awesome said it was a broken tooth too, as apposed to a bearing, which i'm not so sure they could blame on me.

Poo.
