Looking for Skype advice

Featured Replies

Can anyone offer some advice on Skype? I have used it on my laptop with success, but have a couple of questions.

I hope to ditch BT Broadband soon and get rid of that god awful home hub. Is it possible to buy a cordless Skype phone that does not need to be leashed to a pc usb port, but connects direct to the Internet via my WiFi? I wanted something that's standalone.

Also, am I reading it right that if I pay the £1.50 a vat per month Skype subscription, all calls to landlines are also free (sounds to good to be true)?

Cheers people

BT offer free calls for 12 months if you subscribe for another 12 months. So no payment at all.

I use skype, but dont use it with the computer off, which I think is what your after ??

Cheers Bud. BT are not getting anything else from me. I swear if they offered me free broadband, I would still dump em. Cr@p hardware, cr@p connection, and diabolical support. I rely on my broadband very heavily, and BT frankly might have the infrastructure, but they are cr@p at dishing it up (IMO !!)

You can buy WIFI skype phones yes.

They connect directly to wifi connections and to skype.

I saw one in pcworld for £59.99 or something (but can't find it on their site).

You could also get a pay-as-you go or contract 3 (the mobile network) skypephone and you get free skype calls. Other half has just got one and its great!!!
