Rough-ish idle and flat spots (1500-3500rpm) on Felicia 1.3mpi petrol

Featured Replies

Hi guys, this is the very first post I've done here! :)

My other half has a Skoda Felicia 1.3mpi petrol 78K 1997 reg GLI. Im going to be tinkering with it as it seems simple ( though what Ive learnt in life, nothing is ever simple!)

Anyways, as the title suggests I have a problem with idle, rough and a bit of vibration, and flat spots around 1500 - 3500 RPM whilst driving the car. What is causing it to do this!? And is it simple to fix by myself.

I know there are posts somewhere explaining but Im at work and cant be serching for an answer!

Thanks

How long since the plugs and HT leads were last replaced?

When were the tappets last set?

Run a search for "timing chain". I think that covers most of the main likely causes (and nothing that can do any harm).

I've only just bought the car so I dunno! Will change them and see if it make a difference.

Any more suggestions!?

Could be one or a combination of things.

- dirty throttle body

- dirty MAP sensor

- incorrect valve clearences

- leaking inlet manifold gasket/throttle body gasket

- duff thermostat/sensor

If you are satisfied that plugs, valve clearances are ok then I would start off with a bit of carb cleaner in the throttle body.

If this doesn't cure it then i would say that it is likely to be a leaking gasket
