Steve

Neither, it's been on the rollers ALL day!! :P

I manage somewhere between 43 to 48 mpg on my commute to work (10 miles with a mix of B, A and motorway). The best I have got is 55mpg on a long run through mid wales.

Sorry should have said that I have the TDi VRS

And here's me thinking that a petrol vRS could produce figures like that!, ah well ;)

And the outcome was...? :P

Will answer that later in the Fuel Pump thread mate

I currently commute from North Bristol to Chippenham daily for work - around 30 miles. Depending on exactly how much I am hoofing it off the mark, I get between 39 and 44 mpg on the trip computer assuming a 75-ish average. Usually get around 460 miles before filling up - which currently costs around £55.

I've done longer trips to Leicester and Birmingham. Keeping to 70-75 the whole way (200mile+ round trips) I've so far gotten my best in the car of 49mpg.

I'm happy enough with my choice of the diesel over the petrol :)

Edit: Not showing my sig for some reason (first post so prolly sth to do with that) but I drive a blue diesel vRS 07 reg :)

Having just read this thread it has saved me posting the question of which vRS to buy. Whilst the mileage I do wouldn`t really support buying the Derv vRS I don``t think I could live with seeing late teens on my trip comp for town driving, which is probably 2/3 rds of what I do.

Anyway, I like modern diesels extra oomph. Have had the 150bhp 1.8t Passat and Mondy TDCI recently and for the most part preffered the Mondy power.

Just need to find a decent TDI vRS now my mind is made up. Have 13k to spend so will I get a decent one for that??

£13k will get a good TDI for sure, just. Just haggle hard :)

Don't rule out buying one privately either. Have been a couple advertised on here recently for very good money :)

13k should get you one of the first ones (so without the free upgrades, unless they were bought as extras) and the milage may be a little higher than you would like but is definately possible. I consider myself fairly fortunate in that I paid a little under 12k for my 56 plate one and it was the colour I wanted as well :D

Welcome to Briskoda and congrats on doing your research first before diving in and asking a question that has ben asked countless times before; well done. Hope you enjoy the forum and contribute regularly. ;)

Earliest vRS TDI are 2006/06 (just) and 'book' prices from Parkers guide are here;- Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0 TDI PD Hatchback (170bhp) 5d Valuation - Parker's

As can be seen; within your budget so good hunting! :D

Darren,

I had a petrol Vrs TFSI when they first came out and loved it. It did 32-33mpg over the 16000 miles I ran it and when I sold it I bought a diesel L & K. There are positives and negatives to both cars so get the one you like to drive best. If you love to use the revs to the red line and hear the exhaust note get the petrol and don't worry about the fuel. If you don't want all ther revs of a petrol and don't mind the noise of the diesel then go for that confident that you get good residuals and decent mpg. Either way you are picking a cracking car. Enjoy!

Overall MPG since January (7k miles) over a mixture of roads in in my sig.... Been bumped up somewhat over the past couple of months by some hefty motorway drives, which have seen 37-39mpg easily achieved

Well I'm going to give weight to the deisel argument as this is the data taken from todays driving........................................;)

He asked for "real world" fuel economy, not "whats the worst mpg you get when spending a whole day on a rolling road" fuel economy! ;):rofl:

Real world on my daily drive is 31mpg.About 12 miles of "interesting lanes" then motorway for about 80 miles M50,M5,M42 then M6. I've done a brim to brim calculation as well as maxidot, they are near as dam it spot on.(Running on V-Power)

im averaging 22 to 24 mpg, but i have a bit of a lead foot, this is my first petrol having previously had nothing but diesels, its scary how fast the fuel gauge goes down, so much so, first day i had it, i went through a tank

im going down to newquay later this year which is a 330 mile trip, the focus tdci i went down in last time happily did it in just over half a tank, cruising at 100 most of the way (set off at 3am)

some how I think the ocativa is going to want a full tank to get there especially if i cruise at 100 like last time :(
