The v stands for 'lets not get sued by Ford'.

And i'm pretty sure mine is a vRS. Theres a green and red badge on the front and back that say so

Chris

VRS = Victory Rallye Sport

'V'stands for;victory'in order to honour the firm's rich racing heritage.

The v is used in UK vRS models because Ford got all arsey over the use of the RS name.

The v actually comes from the top of the letter S in the Skoda name.

In Ireland as in Europe it will be known as the RS. As said above the UK is vRS.

Great work keep it up

I bet they love you

I rang Skoda up when I got mine to ask what it stood for. They told me it didn't stand for anything.

It'll be interesting to see what another Skoda place has to say.

Being really pedantic, it's 'Victor'.

From another thread:

http://briskoda.net/forums/octavia-ii/vrs-officially-stands/99841/

The RS stands for "Rally(e) Sport" and is the original and official model designation.

This is the vRS moniker on the continent, however in regions where Ford own the rights to "RS", Skoda were not permitted to sell the vehicle with this name, so a sort of sporty tick like squiggle is added - or at least that is how it is interpreted abroad.

In Ford ruled domains (this country) the intentionally ambiguous "v" shape is treated as a the letter "v" - so "vRS"

Technically the "v" means nothing as far as Skoda Auto CZ is concerned as it was never meant to have it.

So the choice is yours.

V

I got the registration documents through for the new vRS on Monday and the model name is VRS.

On the mark 1 vRS the model name was RS, so Skoda UK must have changed the official name.

The v is used in UK vRS models because Ford got all arsey over the use of the RS name.

Which is a d@mned cheek, since Porsche first used RS, short for RennSport (tr Race Sport), back in the 1950s.

Sorry to tell youthat Ford didn't patent the RS.

I suggest instead of wasting the time of Skoda you read up on the differences between patents and trademarks.

The v above the S is called a makcen (pronounced mek-chen) and makes the S equivalent to our 'sh'. (Skoda pronounced properly is Sh-koda)

It means 'shame' or pity' (as in "that's a shame" or "that's a pity")

[/geekvoice]

I still prefer the story that Skoda stuck it there as a two-fingered salute at Ford :D

I don't think Fraud can even have copyrighted RS, since Porsche can still use it. As I said, and I've no doubt you knew anyway, Porsche can claim 20 years prescidence over Fraud in using it anyway.

There is clearly a 'V', 'R' and a 'S' on the front and back of my car, therefore it is a vRS! :P

Single white female, small son, nice car, good job - seeks similar male to cook clean and wash

I think you might want to clarify your signature, unless you're offering to cook, clean and wash males........
