Speedo problem

Featured Replies

Hi wonder if any of you guys can help me.

I noticed that when I stop my speedo is reading 4mph (even when parked up). It *seemed* to be reading ok on the road. Was doing this all afternoon until got home, switched the engine off and about 5 seconds later the speedo juddered down to zero.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jim

EDIT: Car has done about 37,000 miles on a Y plate (Engine Code: ASY - 1.9 SDI Estate).

Thats what I thought I first, but then found out that other cars werent doing it :D.

Seriously though - this isnt a sign my speedo is about to stop working is it?

Jim

Hi,

Could possibly be a sensor problem, my worry would be wether it's actually showing correct speed when travelling. Do you have a sat nav which shows your speed so you can do a comparison with speedo display ?

Yeh, that was another of my concerns. No sat-nav, however the speedo *seems* fine today, road speed feels OK. If there was a fault would the car be throwing up an error code?

Thanks,

Jim

you can usually judge your speed by haw many revs the car is doing.... aparently

Problem is I live in speed camera riddled Staffordshire - you only need to be out of judgement by 5mph and thats 3 points and a fine. Don't really want to take in chances.

Jim

hi jimbell -

seems you have a slight short or closed circuit somewhere that is exciting your speedo - why not disconnect your speedo drive and see if that makes any difference which are wire not cable these days - if your needle go`s dead as a door nail thats probably your man -
