Tax On Post 2001 Vehicles

Featured Replies

Hi All

Alistaoir Darling announced new tax measures today !

What year is a V plate ?

What Co2 emmission do these things produce

Earlier than 2001

V plate will be pre-emissions based tax. My car is a late 2001 Y, and only just got in the new system by about 3 weeks. :) Lucky really as it saves me around £70+ a year.

V Plates introduced September 1st 1999 to Feb 29th 2000.

Thanks guys.

Obvious question is how much it would cost if it was post 2001?

Does anyone know for 1.4 what the number would be?

Depends if its 8 or 16 valve as the CO2 emissions are different.

Yikes - I dont know and my husbands away till the weekend :(

does it have MPi on the back of the car?

If so then it's 8 valve, else most probably 16-valve.

I am not sure the Good Ship Devontopia was what Gordon Brown had in mind when he assigned its OEM CO2 value!!

Oh well, at least all those left in its wake can't see whats made all the smoke and noise. :P

Nice one steve i didnt know they had something useful on the DVLA site

V reg wont be covered by the emissions based tax system , my 1.4 MPI costs £115 per year to tax , as far as I can recall , if it was a 2001 car (x or y reg) then it would cost £165 , I think thats correct for the 8V engine.

Mines an X-Reg, registered Nov 2000. I only pay £115 per year also.

My x reg was May 200 so tax was 200 (ish) quid, just missed out, pi55 take!!

Yeah, unless its changed for the reecent budget, anything up to and including x reg and less than or equal to 1549cc is £115 a year to tax. 1550cc and above and it's £185 a year.

Y reg onwards is based on emissions.

it would be cheaper for me to get a battered up smokey N plate van :(

Yeah, in some cases. Petrols mostly it's actually cheaper to have taxed the vehicles pre-march 13th 2001. But many diesel owners tax payouts have dropped significantly.

I was paying £185 to insure my smokey old DTurbo. Now I pay £115 a year (Same the GF's old Fiesta) to insure my 170BHP Fabia. Great stuff.

Same here, my old smokey 306 TD was £185 a year, the Fabia is £115 which I was very pleasantly suprised about!

Even better is my Nova which is E reg, 'tweaked' 1400cc running 150bhp (not bad weighing 700kg!), no cat required etc, tis a right petrol guzler on twin 40 carbs and costs £115 a year also ;)

Struck it lucky for once.
