PD160 Rattle

Featured Replies

I have had a rattle on my car for a few weeks now. Not been able to find out what the hell it was. It would happern consistantly between 1500 - 2000 rpm and could be heard most in 2nd and 3rd gear.

Car is in for service today and so I took off the PD160 intake and replaced standard one and rattle has gone!!

When i put the 160 on I cable tied back the pipe that rubs and made sure nothing else rubs or touches so I can only assue that the intake parts are rattling against each other.

Anyone else had this problem and/or been able to cure it?

Thanks

Mark

hiya mate, dont know if this is the cause of the rattle but ive got the pd160 on mine. when i fitted it, because its larger than the pd130 i found that it touched a rubber hose under the engine cover (on the left hand side as you look at it) to make sure the pd160 didnt damage it i put some gaffer tape round the rubber hose. might be worth a try? i havent noticed any rattles but then ive always had some gaffer on to protect that little hose

sorry mate im being thick and didnt read your post properly! ignore me - duhhhh:rolleyes:

s ok. Thanks for the thought.

what might be worth a thought though, thinking back to the post basil put on about the pipe not being a perfect fit - ive had mine off a couple of times when it went to the dealers and its not a perfect fit at all. ive taken to putting tape on it where it joins the airbox and front panel. i wonder if taking it off has made it worse and caused the rattle. it certainly seems that mine is not as good a fit as it was at first

I'll give it a try. See how it goes.

Mine makes the same rattle at the same revs and have never worked out what it is?? I have a pd160 on mine and its lose and the front where it connects. I must try tape around it to see if thats the rattle??

What kind of rattle is it?

My Superb has always had a metallic (almost like a small bell) rattle from about 1800 - 2300rpm, but only when driving, if you just rev it then it is quiet.

I have tried silicone sealant on the join between the intake pipe and filter box, with no joy.

I'm interested to get to the bottom of whats causing mine.

Its quite a dull rattle. Not metalic. It sounds plastic. (what a cr*p description!!)

I'm gonna try a have a fiddle tonight (with the intake!!!) and see what I can find.

Cheers for the replies

Might be the alternator pulley one way bearing, see if it rattles when say all the electrics are on?

It only rattles when driving at between 1800 - 2300rpm though (with every thing else turned on or off too), if it's just revved up, no matter how much load is being drawn it's quiet.

I'm fully aware how a normal alternator and pulley work, but is this "one way bearing pulley" different??
