Clutch Problems :(

Featured Replies

Sadly, I have had my first major problem with my vRS. Was driving down to devon last night, stuck on the a303 in heavy traffic...

suddenly a particularly nasty smell and a very badly slipping clutch... I am gutted...

waited 3 hours for a lift back to london with the octy from stonehenge. Dealers can't look at it till tues.

was driving a few mates down with me... cue the jokes ... at least the rear windscreen is heated so we can push it and keep our hands warm :)

Hope y'all have good weekends.

Not good. How long have you had the car? :(

it was registered in dec 2001, i've had it since march last year. It has covered only 52000 miles, mostly on motorway.

Just spoken to the dealer this morning... they won't replace the clutch under warranty...

surely 52000 milies is not the life of a clutch?

any suggestions for replacement. looks like 5-600 notes to replace?

Cheers,

K

Sorry to hear this.

Clutches were discussed recently here, along with some prices.

well, the work has been done and I have written to skoda uk... no reply as yet

the parts replaced were 1 bearing, and 2 clutch plates.

what i am wondering is if it was the bearing at fault, is that fair wear and tear? or was is faulty? or am I clutching at straws, and should just take it like a man :o

Oh and there was a whopping

Whenever I have had clutches replaced in the past I have always had the clutch release bearing replaced at the same time since it is a wear and tear item.

5-600 notes ? Think yourself lucky !

Mine cost

gutted !!!

was driving along tonight, suddenly unable to get 3rd and 5th gears, guess they must have screwed up the gearbox alignment during the work... another trip to the dealers in a few hours then :(

I hate dealers :(

Specialists seem the way to go. My warranty is probably void by now and I am thinking of going Indy for all my servicing.

This is my first problem with the work done by the dealer, they are however very accomodating... but indy seems like a wise choice!

If its down to the new clutch and/or there work i would c*** them right off.

If they cant fit a clutch then WTF...........

You said 'they would'nt replace the clutch'-WHO? -Skoda UK or the dealer?

the dealer said they wouldn't replace the clutch. I have fired an email to skoda uk, to see what they have to say... but.. this will now be followed up by a note of this problem

steve, are you the black cab driver i met about a year ago on the kings road?

Yes mate :D I had just sold the RS and bought a Superb...well that's gone and ive got 'another' RS :D .

Who's the Dealer? I would have pushed the point and ask for a second opinion from a Skoda Tech- like problem shooter Mr Skinner.

Get on the phone to skoda customer care and ask to speak to Simeon Highton or Chris Smart.I'll try to find An email address tommorrow.

Glad to hear you're back with the RS :D

The dealer is HL Austin, in wandsworth. I will give Skoda CS a call in the morning, once I've ripped into the dealer a little.

Problem is I need the car this weekend for a wedding... it's either that or drive a BMW 318...

Unfortunately the last respone from skoda was:

Thank you for your email.

I was sorry to learn of the difficulties that you have experienced with the clutch on your Octavia.

Our warranty provides assurance that any defect in manufacture will be repaired free of charge. I have spoken with Steve Penfold, Service Manager at H L Austin and I can confirm that no manufacturing defect was identified that would contribute to the pronounced wear found to the clutch components. Therefore, After full consideration, I regret that we are not in a position to assist with the cost of replacing the clutch on this occasion.

I regret that I am not able to comment as to the sudden nature of the failure of the clutch. However, it may be that your personal driving style may mask the clutch slip that can occasionally precede complete clutch failure.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to respond and I regret that it is not more positive. Should you have any further questions, please do contact me on 0845 7745 745.

Well it was worth a try,

Steve
