Switched 12V line any ideas?

Looking for a switched 12v line to indicate ignition is on/key in barrel.

No load, just after after it for a signal so I can turn my "machines" on when the ignition is on.

Ignition on = Key in barrel and turned I guess...

Failing that I'll work on adding a start button...might be the best anyway, can use then when the engine is off ...umm typing it out makes me think...but any help / ideas welcomed.

How about the remote/antenna feed on your head unit?

Yep, told him on MSN to look at the back of the radio...but he seems to be sleeping :D

Take of the trim panel under the dash on the drivers side and there is a bank of permanent 12 feeds (red) and ingition (yellow) or you could just use the supply to the fag lighter as that is fed from ignition.

Ciggie lighter is permanently live, or at least mine is because my GPS has been plugged in for the last week...

not if you put the rear window lock on it isn't

Yep my advice is the same as Colin and Geoff. Use the amp remote cable of the back of the head unit.

personally i think you'd be better with as start button, unless the kit would drain the battery v quickly...:melting:

Why not go the whole hog, Colin? There must be room for a decent UPS under the other seat.... :)

ooh tip on cig lighter thanks.

Antenna feed, I'll try that...actually that might make sense as then the nannites will be on when the radio is on :D

Ogg to prod it with my vm.

I'd vote for a start button too. PC's are unfortunately not very power peak/spike friendly and having a PC going trhough it's post whilst you switch on the ignition might just be fatal enough to render it an expensive doorstop. With a button you keep in control at all times.

Dipped headlights is the feed I used

Have a little backup circuit to prevent the spike/drop issues.

What are you trying to do?

Are you trying to power a PC and have it only on when your ignition is on?

The problem with using the remote output from the HU is its current is limited, but what you can do is build a relay.

The following instructions will allow to build a relay which will supply up to 30amps current :)

You could also put a switch inline so it tuens on when you want it. Using the output from the stereo means you can never accidentaly leave it on
