Just fitted....

Featured Replies

Just fitted some shiny bits from ABD racing, courtesy of Michael at www.impossible-performance.cwc.net

List as follows:

1. ABD racing big bore turbo inlet tube.

2. ABD racing lower intercooler tube.

3. ABD racing silicone intake hose.

What do I think? Well, my overall impression is that they have made a noticeable difference. The car seems to pick up much quicker now, especially from around 2500 rpm. In gear acceleration is certainly improved, in second and third gear the in spins round to the red line much quicker than before. Overtaking in fifth gear from 50mph to 70mph is a dramatic improvement and from 30mph to 70mph in second gear it's manic.

Fitting the bits was relatively straight forward. Having read previous threads on the subject, I conclude that fitting the turbo inlet tube can be done from the top of the car, removing the air intake box makes life much easier. I had a problem taking the existing rubber intake hose of the existing turbo inlet pipe, removing the pipe first made it easier to 'twist' the rubber hose off. Fitting the new turbo inlet was a breeze.

The lower intercooler tube was more problematic. IMHO it is too long, when compared to the original, it's a good 25mm longer. This made it difficult to locate the tube's bracket onto the original mounting point. I chose to hacksaw about 10mm off either end of the new tube (be careful not to hack off too much, the new tube has dimples pressed into either end to stop the hoses blowing off under pressure).

The silicone hose was a similar story, too long but easily rectified. I think I cut off about 25mm in order for it to fit properly without kinking in the middle. One more useful tip, I found it easier to remove the offside headlight in order to gain access to the lower jubilee clip.

Job done.

Was it worth the money? Well IMHO it's an expensive modification for what it is but overall I think it was worth doing. I hope the true benefits will come when I fit a FMIC. Watch this space.
