New Car Tax Rules

Featured Replies

Am I reading this right? Car tax is actually coming down..?

BBC NEWS | Special Reports | 629 | 629 | New car tax rates for 2009

According to my reg doc my 02 Fabia emits 132g so it's £120 this year then £110 next year and £115 thereafter.

Doesn't the emission levels vary according to age of vehicle or does the cat/ecu keep things in check?

For some

Dont know what the VRS will fall into as i dont know the exact c02 emmissions so going from the old cat c it will either be a d,e or f. wont change much :)

Now thats really odd...I could have sworn when I looked the other day it all had gone up. For instance...I paid £115 for my 07 Plate vRS a few weeks ago. For a years tax....now why is it saying it falls in the £120 tax band for the year just gone. It clearly does not...I never paid £120.

Im confused. :(

EDIT - Well the vRS gives out 140 Grams of CO2, so I guess thats a £10 reduction....

Use "Vehicle Enquiry" on THIS link to find out what you'll pay. :(

The earlier vRSes emit less CO2 for some reason, 136 listed for pre-04 registered cars :)

So fall into a lower category under the new system....

Due to the gearbox I think.

CO2 output according to my vRS's V5 document is 143 g/km; so no saving, rather an increase. Typical!

Edit: It's a March 2006 car BTW.

Yeh my 07 Plate vRS has 143g/km on the V5, but on the DVLA website it says 140G/Km. I think we will save a tenner. It was in band C or Euro 4 when I renewed a few weeks ago.

EDIT - I've just double checked my V5 and it actually says 140G/Km, just like the website. How odd....whats with all the differences.

Yep, :iagree:

Makes a mockery of all this Euro4 compliance really, as a Euro3 vRS with the longer 'box emits less than the newer, stuttering BLT cars

If my 52 reg cordoba is anything to go by, 6th is a bit too long on the early 130s. It's near as makes no difference 40mph/1000rpm. It's pretty useless below 70. Maybe that's just me though. I try and keep engine revs well above 1500rpm in the higher gears. I wasn't expecting such long gears anyway. It has the same first 5 gears as my PD100 fabia with another gear on top!

Well i've just checked both our vRS's on the DVLA site and one of them adds something new to the equation!!!!!

I checked the 2006 car first.... May 2006... 143g/km and £120 per year tax.

Then i checked the 2005 car.... June 2005... 146g/km and £120 per year tax.

Cheers

Dave.

Yup. Pretty much sums things up really. :thumbdwn:

i taxed my vrs on friday... £120 for 12 months so went up £5 with the budget. not sure of future pricing though.

Yep, this is what I found.

vRS release to end of Feb 04 (53): 136g/km.

March 04 until release of Euro4 compliance (late 55/06??) 146g/km.

Euro4 compliance until end of production: 143g/km.

I checked this out with a few plates on the DVLA site and it seemed to work out.

Steve

Wardy have you tried 07 Plates? For example mine, along with the other 07 plates I have tested have given 140G/km.

Nope, didn't try any 07s. Presumed (perhaps incorrectly) that BLT-engined cars would all give the same results :)

Intriguing that there are these small differences. With different gearbox ratios I could perhaps understand, but two different outputs from seemingly the same engine and gearbox setup :rubchin:

Steve

my vrs tax for the year was £115

Renewed my 07 VRs Ltd road tax on Saturday morning on line. It was £120.

will it not be down to the two diffrent engines??

Doesn't the emission levels vary according to age of vehicle or does the cat/ecu keep things in check?

The quoted emissions level is a lab derived figure based on a car running the "combined cycle" on a rolling road under test conditions. Actual CO2 emissions vary based on driving style, age of car, fuel used, etc, etc.

So, a bit like mpg figures, it should be taken with a pinch of salt (and a dollop of cash)....

Chris

will it not be down to the two diffrent engines??

It's a case of having two different figures here though, for same engine code (the Euro4 BLT engine in this case).
