resetting the ecu on vrs

Featured Replies

how can i reset my ecu? i've been told that as its adaptive to your driving style if you reset it, it will mean you can drive it steadily from then on and get more mpg or drive it hard and get better performance.

Disconnect the battery for half an hour. Radio knows the ECU is partnered with it and will not need the code. Clock will need setting and your trip meter average will be reset.

Then just thrash it or not.

does it actually work as i described? can you do any damage by leaving it over 30 mins or under etc?

I'm sure Ross said ages ago it wasn't possible to reset the ECU... No harm will be done by disconnecting the battery, although you'll need to reset your clock, radio (have the key code handy!) and one-touch windows afterwards :D

one touch window? please explain

one touch window? please explain

At the moment you can open and close the windows in the car by pressing and releasing the button (and the window goes to the end of it's travel). This info is stored in volatile memory so if you remove the power source you need to get it to relearn these positions.

It should be detailed in the handbook on how to do it - I think you have to open and close each window in turn and hold them at the end position for 5 seconds, but my memory isn't what it used to be :D

righteo if anyone else has more info on resetting the windows it would be much appreciated.

I've just reset my windows by using the key in the lock and holding it in the unlock position until the windows open fully. Then hold the key in the lock position until the windows close again. The one touch feature has now been restored.

The car wont loose the adaption values, just becasue the batteri is taken out.

It needs to be done with a tester.

The car will automaticly adjust the values, after some time.
