Help with buying a Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi people.

I don't normally wander into these parts :D , but we are looking to change the other halfs car for a Fabia.

She is wanting a diesel, but nothing painfully slow like the sdi.

vRS would be awesome, but they go for silly money and well above our £5k tops.

I've had a peruse around the trader website, but thought I'd ask on here peoples thoughts about the diesel options available.

Ideally want something that has been looked after with a SH and under 70K.

The 100hp tdi would be nice, and if anybdoy knows how to get a vRS for £5000 I'd be very interested :P

Any thoughts on which to go for or look at?

Hello,

the SDI is not as painfully slow as the figures suggest and with a not so complicated engine (no turbo) it would be my choice for the other half.

Low maintanance. Good resale value. Good MPG. No known problems with the engine. Decent road tax cost, low insurance, not desired by would be bank robbers but has all the functionality of top of the line VAG cars. This would be my vehicle of choice. Oh and to add, probably a good second hand one has been looked after by a retired mechanic, aircraft engineer, rather than some STIG wannabee.

Thanks for the quick reply.

tbh I think the sdi will be too slow.

She drives my Octavia tfsi vRS, and loved the 130hp Passat tdi I had a few cars ago.

Looking at the sdi's 16 second 0-60 and dismall in gear times suggest it will be a painfull drive. However we will go and look at a few over the Easter break.

As long as it does 45mpg+ on a run she'll be happy.

The 100 PD engine is not a bad engine and you should be able to pick one up in budget. I'd personally pay a bit extra for the Elegance as it's a much nicer place to be than the Comfort and you get a few extra toys as well as making it more desirable at resale time.

I saw 50mpg bang on in mine (no matter how much I abused it) and SWMBO at the time got 74mpg on a 2 hour run at a steady 60mph.

Chris

I have the 100 PD Elegance paid £5K for it and can't complain, I like her. I'm doing 50+ miles per day and easily get 55mpg+ according to trip computer. Oh and her road tax is coming down too.

I just bought a load of car cleaning stuff now I need to get rid of my stinking cold and get some better weather to clean her! Got to love the heated front seats :)

£5k is a decent budget

Plenty of SDIs and a few TDIs around under £3k

You may be able to get the 1.4TDI

Although don't write off petrol models.

There are a few 1.416vs lurking under and around the £3500 mark. The money you save o that can go towards maintenace and fuel ;)

You should easily find a 1.9Tdi for your £5K , If not an Elegance then an Ambiente/Comfort spec. The earlier Elegance is a nice motor , later ones did away with the rear electric windows IIRC.
