Alloy wheels BBS RC to a 1.4mpi

Featured Replies

Im sure ive seen 1 set of these alloy wheels fitted to a car on this forum, i just wondered do they fit correctly with the offset and pcd? do they need spacers? im guessing 215/35/18 tyres need to be fitted also? and are they heavy over stock wheels or lighter? i thought of changing my 14inch steels to they look so smart! :D

Have a look through the 'Fabia Alloy Wheels Archive' thread , you should find people on there with 18s on their cars and their post will probably mention offsets , PCDs etc , plus tyre sizes they are running.

thanks ill have a look and see what i can find :thumbup:

There was a set of 17'' versions of them on ebay recently and I think also on one of the VAG forums but can't find the advert now. Definately less hassle fitting the 17s but the 18s will fit okay as long as you don't go too wide on the tyres. Look a bit silly though unless the car is lowered......

are they still genuine bbs then? i mite have to look out for a set of them my friend has some on his golf but i thought they would be more rare

When I had a Fabia 1.4mpi I fitted a set of OE Fabia vRS 16" alloys to it and in doing so found out the following;

The vRS alloys with 205/45 16s were about 3Kg heavier that the OEM steelies with 185/60 14s and it was overgeared as the 205/45 16s have a larger rolling radius than 185/60 14s. The result was a slower sluggish car (not that its fast anyway) although the handling was better!

To correct this I changed the tyres to 195/45 16s which provided a better match for the rolling radius and pepped up the performance (to normal).

To give another comparison; I presently have two sets of wheels for my Octy vRS; Pegasus 7J 17" rims with 225/45 tyres and B14 8J 18" rims with 225/40 tyres. The B14s are 2.5kg per wheel/tyre heavier.

I hate therefore to think what the difference between your 14" steelies and 18" BBS will be; 7kg - 8kg perhaps? This will have a disastrous and negative effect on the car.

Finally; if you go ahead with this idea, to get a correct and safe match on your tyre size you will need to use 215/30 18 (to match, but still bigger, the rolling radius to 185/60s). The 215/35 18 is even almost too big a tyre to match the vRS's 205/45 16 (itself bigger than 185/60 14).

Your call; but IMHO I wouldn't.

they look like MG alloys

thanks for the reply i think ill give it a miss then! i reckon ill go for some lightweight oz then, im not keen on slowing it down i did that with my last car and was not impressed with myself :(

Cheers also for that Bahnstormer vrs. I was considering some alloys too for a .1.4 MPI but after considering your post there really is no point. I can easily live without and the money will be better off saved for something else!
