Fabia complete suspension how 2

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm doing a complete suspension overhaul on my fabia, it seems a shame not to document and share it. Fingers crossed the suspension units should be here tomorrow so i can get on with the job.

new consoles and bushes too? :)

Hi,

I have the console bushes but not the console itself. If they looks warn I will replace them.

Do they have a history of going bent?

Cheers

yeah they are notorious for boing 'bent' and they are tricky to change too, you need the proper tool for extracting them

What model is it and have you bought the Seat Ibiza Cupra console bushes? The consoles should be okay unless they have been damaged in a previous life.

Hi,

Its a 2001 1.9tdi elegance hatchback.

I think all the suspension is the factory stuff from new, it drove really sweet when i 1st got it. However 3000 miles of hard driving on the same rehearsed journeys every day has taken its toll on the potentially weak/brittle suspension and bushes.

Since owning the car i have had and sorted the following problems out:

Heated seat on drivers side inoperative.

Replaced both the back and base heat pad, approx 1.5 hours, cost £64 iirc

Lower heat pad had broken in a few places, one has burnt a hole about the size of a 5p in the heat pad material.

Stereo/speakers intermitant, wasnt sure which.

Replaced with aftermarket headunit and components, front & rear.

Approx 3 hours inc making mdf speaker mounts, cost £900

Wheels far too small, lol

Replaced with golf gti turbo 16" and new 205/45 rubber

Approx 20mins, cost £400

Front wheel arch trim came loose.

Sikaflexed back on, approx 5 mins, cost £6

Rear N/S wheel arch trim departed at high speed on the motorway.

Skoda want £200 for a complete set, so if anyone has one let me know how much you want!

Beigh seat trim with little men is hideous.

Currently half way through retrimming the interior in black montana and Rolls Royce magnolia hide.

Approx 1.5 days for the rear seats, cost £370

I do have to say despite these minor issues, this is one of the best cars i've had in ages.

Not seen one with those wheels... Looks good. Keep us updated with your upgrades.
