Something went pop!

Featured Replies

Cacked myself today - after driving the 11 miles home from work I reversed my Fab into the drive, switched the engine off and opened the door... just as I was about to get out I heard a massive bang from somewhere under the car... the noise sounded as if it was the passenger seat going into position (as if someone had adjusted it and not clicked it into position correctly) but I'm pretty sure it came from under the car... I immedietely thought the turbo had ****en blown or something and so I turned the key to lamp test to see if anything came up and when it seemed ok I tentatively started the engine and it started alright and seems normal... I dunno what it was but it's been worrying me a bit - anyone got any ideas? Or am I going crazy?!

Have you driven it since?

It could be the intercooler pipe (search on here, it's a common fault) which needs to be refitted.

If it is the pipe you'll get no turbo but the car will run and can be driven, but it will be dog slow and probably shouldn't be done for more than a mile or so.

Is your drive on a slope?

hand break? maybe?

Mine does it every morning as my drive is on a rather steep slope.

Hope nothing serious.Good luck:thumbup:

Sounds like the handbrake - it happened to me when i had a TT.

the only bang is when the neighbour hits my car.... turbo waste gas

It is on a slope, yeah... could this be the cause?! Starts and drives fine... No loss of power, turbo boost normal.

Guys?

Sounds like the handbrake slipping a little. Was the car in gear?

Nah man - neutral. Car was off. It sounds feaible that it may have been the handbrake - sometimes I've gotta give it a proper good tug (oooh errr!) as I'm not confident it's on fully.

I had something similar a couple of weeks back on a PD100 estate as I was slowing doen for a junction. It sounded like I'd driven over something that had kicked up underneath the car. I stopped quickly and went back to check but no sign of anything, no damage and the car seems fine and still seems to pull OK so I thought nothing of it.

Can the intercooler pipe drop back into position at all after coming off? Just wondering as I'll check it anyway now just in case but it'd be interesting to know.

Have a GOOD look at your springs, mine made a similar sound when nearside front spring snapped it's top coil off. Not an uncommon failure!!

On the PD130, I'd say no. Unlikely yours could have gone back on either unless anyone knows otherwise?

Could be noise from the speakers or excess feul being burnt. Rover sub used to pop when i turned it off:D
