This weekends folding will be slooower for me

Featured Replies

Got into the office this morning, and one of my SMP folding rigs was not well. The server has a problem with the external storage array (nothing to do with folding). Both the cooling fans in the HP storageworks MSA array had failed and nearly caught fire, the smell was horrid. So, the upshot is there will be no folding on this rig until at least wednesday next week.

Expensive?

Hopefully covered under warranty, but otherwise yes expensive.

Hopefully tomorrow I can rig something up to get the server back online.

Blimey... so much for redundant fans eh!

Ooops!

Any one in the IT business gets to be scared of burning smells. We'd shut down half our test lab the other day by the time we found the network switch that was smelling!

Yay, its back on again. Replaced fans, and everything seemed to work ok, so its all online again. Its even completed its first SMP WU since being powered up again.
