Acceleration Noise

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Another new guy here, had the car for about a month and am so far very happy except for one annoying little problem.

Whenever I accelerate hard there is a noise coming from somewhere in the centre top of the dash (Maybe from the blowers) it sounds like a rattle almost as if there is a vent trying to open or close but too much air pressure it acting on it. The sound only lasts for about 10 seconds but seems to happen every time I speed up in a substantial way. My local dealer have sid they can find nothing wrong with the ventelation system. I have trawled through the board before posting this but just in case this is a repeat please acept my apologies. Any advice gratefuly taken.

Thanks

I may have something similar - sounds very much like what I have e.g. hard away and for a short period whilst your are building speed there is a buzzing noise from behind the radio unit towards the top of the dash.

I presume it happens when there is a certain frequency of engine noise due to revs. I have mentioned this to the dealer and they did manage to make it a bit less noticeable but it is still there but I'm used to it now.

Not the answer you want but maybe there are at least two of us identified with the same issue!

What engine have you got? It may be something from under the bonnet being transmitted through to the passenger cabin.

PS> Welcome to Briskoda; do stick around.

I have/had this rattling when accelerating and it sounded like it was coming from the centre unit in the dash, I took it out along with the head unit to trace the rattle but couldn't.

After weeks of randomly hitting pieces of the dash I found the source - a rattling auto dimming mirror. The dealer however coulnd't replicate the rattle  so it's still there.

2.0 TDI by the way.

put a tiny bit of double sided trim foam etc behind the plastic tube that runs down from the headlining to the mirror housing.

I had an an annoying buzz rattle on my Mk1 octy and it took ages find as it sounded similar to what you are getting. I was convinced it was behind the dash ....but it turned out to be the hand brake button.

I have an annoying vibration rattle that I get at a certain amount of revs at a certain speed from the passenger side B pillar. Never been able to determine what it is despite having the trim off.

My Dad had a buzzing rattle coming from behind the vents on his 1.9TDI. Happened after it had been in for a service or something like that. It was really bad at around the 2000 rpm mark (would have to turn radio up to not notice it). Of course 2000 rpm is about 60 mph in fifth, so you can imagine how annoyed he was with it. Eventually however a main Skoda warranty rep looked at and said replace the engine, as it must be vibrating. So new engine fitted.

Hopefully this won't be the case on yours, maybe just some plastics rubbing together. Hope you get it sorted soon, if the dealer can replicate it....

Sounds a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut solution but as long as it worked

I get a rattle at about 2600-3000 revs when accelerating. I have the audience cd head and I believe it is the CD's (6 loaded) in the head rattling ? I think I have tried without CD's in and (I cant remember exactly but) it never happened!! As it doesn't always do it, I also believe it happens when I load a certain CD (eg slot 3) and no its not U2 and Rattle and Hum:rolleyes: before anyone says its?

Dealer blamed the copied CD's

Had a similar problem with my ambiente. there was an annoying 'buzzing' vibration around the top of the dash above the vents. The vibration ocurred under acceleration and at about 75 MPH or on very poor road surfaces. The dealer fixed it and said it was something vibrating against a steel tray in the dash. I have heard that there was a mod for the long vents for the screen on the dash and the air vents in the centre of the dash. Someone has bought out a CD which gives a variation of vibrations to help pinpoint rattles without driving the car, don't know if its anyone has tried it?

WOW Thanks for all the possible answers. I need to do some checking. I have a 1.9TDI and dear god I hope it's not the engine :eek::rolleyes:

Thanks again for all the advice.

Happy easter

I wouldn't think it was the engine, but you never know, we didn't think they would replace the whole engine but it also had oil leaking into the coolant and they couldn't find a solution. So it wasn't replaced solely for the buzzing rattle.

Is it a cracking/creaking noise, I had one when the car was cold. I removed the center vent assembly and taped up areas between plastic & plastic, and gave it a good spraying of Silicon spray and its grand since.

The noise could be simulated by pressing the dash area just under the center dash.

Hi, I've got a 1.9tdi as well and I get the same rattle noise - seems to come from behind the centre airvents/stereo. Only really happens at low revs in 3rd/4th/5th - around 1200rpm or so. It's pretty annoying but doesn't happen often so I try not to let it drop too low. Just had a service but didn't mention it as I can't replicate it all the time. I don't think it's the engine being faulty - more like due to the 1.9tdi being 'ahem' a bit unrefined! it sounds a bit like there's a bag of marbles rattling around!!!

I found exactely the same solution on mine, but before that almost took apart whole dashboard. I was so sure that was comming from the dashboard. Now, little piece of double sided tape behind plastic tube (between plastic tube and windshield) and noise's gone, forever.

would have laughed if it hadn't

I have also this noise and I dicovered that is from HPFP. I compare the piston height of PIERBURG pump with original one and there is ~ 5 mm differences. It didn't have to be the same!? For sure the spring jumping inside and create this noise.

I change also the came follower with new one but I notice that the noise is less with the old one.
