Looking at buying a Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Hello guys and gals,

I'm new to the site, i'm looking to buy an Octavia VRS.

I've recently seen a few gorgeous examples, the one i'm currently looking at looks very tidy. One point I saw though which looked strange was the clocks looks like that had been swapped out from a lower end model?

I have a picture from the dealer. Am I correct saying these are not the original clocks? As i'm sure both the rev counter and the MPH, temp and petrol gauge are suppose to be all in white? And if so...I could try barter him money off ;) also would this be something to worry about? let me know guys.

Cheers,

lookin at it mate the MHP has def been changed. it should go up to 160+ and have the same silver plate bit

wether its somethin to be worried about i dont know but i cant see y it should of been changed.

the guys n gals are very good on here and someone will know bit more.

oh and welcome to Briskoda.

Im billy. i have a black octy mk1 vRS

ace cars mate.

hope you find a good one.

I would think this car once belonged to the police.

I have seen that sort of gauge before and it will be a calibrated speedo.

Yeah just that one dial is different and it is a calibrated one. The rest are as they should be.

Hi Billy, thanks for the welcome. Glad the octy's are a good choice :)

Indeed I thought it looked abit strange, and would probably annoy me looking down at the speed.

Do the clocks come in 1 big cluster? or could I change the "faces" to the silver ones?

Thanks for the help guys, very good information!

A few questions I have to fire back at you :P

Is there anything I need to worry about, it being a ex cop car? I've heard they are well maintained, that true? Also there maybe a few holes drilled into certain places?

Also when you mean calibrated speedo, is it possible/worthwhile to change the clocks back to the original? I personally think it looks odd, and would probably annoy the hell out of me whilst driving lol.

Thanks guys.

Unless it was very cheap I wouldnt bother as the ex cop cars demand a lot less than privately owned ones.

it would anoy me too.

As far as i am aware they are individual, youd need to get the haynes book out and see what it entails.

shopuldnt be too hard i wouldnt of thought. jus cut the power and plug new dial in and screw back together.

YW for the welcome, everyone was very friendly when i joined a few month ago. I have found the sight to be very helpful as you may find out if you look up some of my posts.lol

Welcome to the forum, its only the speedo. Buy it and enjoy.:D

It is cheap for the year I believe, its 2002 plate, 111,000k miles. Looks prestine! I've yet to see it in real life though. Wonder if its had a rough life though?

What do you recon? Its up for 3.4k, I recon I can barter him down abit closer to 3-3.1k, as I mentioned it needs the waterpump and cambelt doing soon and he agreed.

it would anoy me too.

Hopefully I could change them :) I'll look into it more and see if there have been previous threads. Yes only joined here last week, been reading until tonight, everyone seems sound and certainly most helpful, so this site gets a thumbs up from me

Thanks for the Welcome!

haha true!! I'm definately going to see if on Monday in the flesh and go from there.

Is there anything I should look out for being an ex copper car? To be honest it scares me abit knowing it was an ex cop car, a harsh life springs to mind. But I know they can spend money on repairs like if money grows on tree's. Still scares me though :P

I would buy an ex cop car......

yes , they may have smashed the suspension over bumps serveral times ect... BUT, it would simply have then had new suspension fitted...... assuming everything's ok, alot of parts will be less old than the 111k suggests...... I've seen ex cop cars go for about 3k, so the price doesn't seem too bad ;)

I may be looking at a mark I octy vRS myself later in the year, i would have a budget of about £5k, but i wouldn't rule out an ex-cop car, especially if it came in white! ;)

if it was a chase car you might find it is bit more gutsy than a normal one. I think that the police cars were tuned to around 200bhp.

dont quote me on that but from what ive seen and read that is what they were. look at the roof for any signs of drilling and look under the rear spoiler as some cop cars ive seen had a box in the middle of the spoiler for a camera.

another thing is look under the front bumper, there might be a metal sump guard under there, that is another hint that it was a cop car.(look to see what state the guard is in)

one thing, if the cam and the water pump need doin, make sure you put the metal bladed one in as it is better. there are a few threads about them, jus use the search at the top bar(if you dont already know lol)

Cheers Sharkrider, makes me feel alot better, of course i'll make sure i'll give it a good viewing and checking. Plus i'm sure there will be tons of service history with all the documentation of new parts (i'm hoping). With my limited Budget of 3.5k I guess I cant really complain. Yes i'd love one in white also ;)

Oh wow, saves me remapping it! lol. Cheers about the drilling, I'll make sure to check all the parts where something might have been added. As long as the holes arent leaking any water, I aint really that bothered, makes it more light weight!

Arr yes will definately make sure I get the metal pump. Infact I'll be taking it to Awesome as its only around the corner from me and they always give the upgraded metal one. I'll make sure to check the sump guard as well, if its had a bashing.....the salesmen aint gonna like me! lol

Thanks for the info guys, top stuff!

VRSwhite is selling his MK1 Ocy vRS, which happens to be white. Last of his posts I read was priced at £3300.

Hello and welcome btw.

I hope he's back soon! but thanks for letting me know bud and the welcoming :)

Just a quick update guys, I went to view the car today and it was lovely! It drove fantastic! Mechnically is was spot on so I slapped down a deposit

A few niggles which I was expecting, but the worse one the aerial on the roof had come off, leaving a hole, this was disguised by some tape lol :o. I'm thinking I could just put a washer in there for now as I don't really listen to the radio. Also the paint work needs abit of TLC.

Other than that, it was mint, interior was lush and had no manky smells, so I'm very happy :)

Will get pics up as soon as I pick her up and gave her a good wash and waxing.

It is definately ex-job. Whereabouts did you buy it from? They are normally serviced etc more than required e.g. oil changes & brakes etc due to their constant use. Most parts etc have probably been changed several times so should be a good buy and there is probably little that is original. Sounds like a bargain.

Is it estate or hatchback?

it would anoy me too.

Cheers,

Thats an ex police car with the calibrated speedo. The company who does them is based in Nottingham. My job car has the exact same speedo dail.

Have a look at expolicecar.co.uk, a company based in West Yorkshire. They had a MK2 vRS in race blue with 45k on the clock. 06 plate estate, looke very nice and clean.
