vRS fuel pump feed

Featured Replies

My vRS died the other day with a fuel feed problem. It turned out that the electric fuel pump was not pumping. The VAG master technician who came out suggested the fuel pump relay was at fault and so connected a (temporary) feed into the fuel pump, at the fuse box, which works and allows me to use the vehicle.

I have now replaced the relay and the problem still exists. The relay is switching and there is power at the output terminal of the relay but no power reaching the fuse for the fuel pump.

On a diagnostic computer connected into the OBD the wiring diagram suggests the fuel pump relay feeds the fuse, which in turn feeds the fuel pump. However, the line from the relay is blue and the line into the fuse is red/yellow, which suggests the feed goes somewhere else before the fuse. I wonder if this might be the immobiliser/alarm. I should also add that the engine warning light has come on (and gone out!) with the error code (460C) indicating issue with the relay.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and have a solution?

I know you already have a fairly good idea of the problem, but can you get a any more information from VAGCOM, for example you said you picked up code 460C, this does not seem to be a valid fault code. I know sometimes OBD computers other then VAGCOM display errors with different codes depending on their software manufacturer. But if you could try and get it to display a code that fits in with the normal code format then you might have a better chance of diagnosing the problem - and if you do manage to pull out a better fault code then have a look at this...

....and see if you can find anything.

We need a wiring diagram to trace where the wiring goes and what is in the circuit to work out where the fault could lie.

Agreed, if I had access to a full wiring diagram I think I could work it out too, but haven't come across one - anybody out there who can help?

As for the diagnostic code, it was not the VAG reader so can't tell what the VAG one would be.

Here is what I know if it helps -

The Fuel Pump is powered from the relay (Red/Yelow) via 15A Fuse SB 61(Blue/White) to Pin 1 on the pump. Pin 4 should go to ground and pins 2/3 are for the level sender.

Do you have power on the Red wire at the relay?

BMWracer it sounds like a problem I have on my Fabia Vrs and I replaced the fuel pump relay.

Did you manage to resolve the problem?

If so was a rewiring, earthing issue or something else?

Thanks
