ASR Problem?

Featured Replies

Yesterday I booted the vRS off a roundabout and the front wheels scrabbled for grip for a second or two. In retrospect, shouldn't the traction control have cut-in and the light flashed up on the dash?

I don't seem to have any problems with the dash lights extinguishing on start-up save for the slight delay when cold/wet. I've recently had new Goodyear GSDs fitted on the front from the OE Conti Sport Contacts (when the TC kicked-in a few times) so would that affect the ASR?

Do I have a fault with the ASR?

Thanks.

Why not find a wet road and find out? ;)

Sometime the ASR does take a little while to kick in, other times it seems to go off at the slightest touch

Sounds normal, the ASR isn't one of the best and can be slow to kick in sometime, mine especially when exiting roundabouts.

With mine, the wheels do spin a bit before the ASR kicks in.

Good on wet drain covers :D

Were the tyres cold? The Eagles are pants before they warm up. REALLY pants. I get caught all the time on mine - combined with the lag of the ASR it can make pulling out of the first few junctions a little hairy on cold damp mornings.

I'd driven about 10 miles before this so the tyres should have been warmed up. It was also post-rain rather than actually raining.

Maybe I'm just not giving it the boot enough?!

I agree, VAG ASR is not the best

Takes a while to kick in sometimes (Same with the ESP) and it's definatley not the smoothest traction control on offer

I'd like to see how it compares with the Jaguar on sheet ice from 5th gear, I found that amazing.

indeed, that video is one of the best endorsments of electronic aids I've seen...

and having driven the vRS for 80k, and now the fiat for 38k, I can confirm, that its just a trait of the VAG ASR.... I used to turn it off if I needed to drive "swiftly" in the vRS, as it either didn't work, or cut the power way too much.....

in the fiat I just leave it on... its almost undetectable... works instantly, and doesn't cut too much power... most effective.

I thought ASR ISNT traction control?

ASR is aload of ****** if you ask me, my wheels spin in 3rd gear in the dry if im really booting it and thats with ASR on!

My ASR does a lot less work now I have the diff fitted. The diff feels like a much better form of traction control, perhaps because it is mechanically based, rather than electronically controlled.

The above sounds normal though.

its a kind of traction control... stands for anti slip regulation... (or something close to that) and will electronically limit engine power, if the wheels are spinning...

well... theoretically! lol.....

The ASR on my Octy has nearly killed me a few times, so it stays off now

If im doing some spirited driving the ASR gets turned off as its far too violent and cuts power way too much.

Also sometimes when its on it will spin then cut out in 1st gear etc when pulling away from junctions (makes you look a complete knobber and as if you cant drive)
