Featured Replies

hi everyone hope you are all ok long time since my last post just wanting to check something how do you read what you current oil level is please? i cant make out if i am low are not? also do i need some 5w 40 oil to top up? many thanks cheers again

Dipstick - has a section which 'sticks out'.

Oil should be to the top of this section.

There should be markings IIRC

Check oil when engine is cold / has not been running for at least 20 mins and also try to do it on a level surface.

You must use an oil which meets specification VW 505 01. The following oils are approved to that specification (there are more):

BP Special Visco V 5W-40 (fully synthetic)

Castrol GTD 505 01 5W-40

DEA Ultec Diesel SAE 5W-40

Delphi Prestige Diesel Plus 5W-40 (synthetic-based)

Esso 505 01 5W-40

Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL PD SAE 5W-40 (fully synthetic)

Granville Topaz Diesel 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

Madit 505 01

Migrol Special S-Plus

Millers XFE-PD SAE 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

Motul 6100 5W-40

OMV syn com diesel

Q8 Formula Excel 5w40 (fully synthetic)

Shell Helix Diesel Plus VA 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

VAG-branded 505 01 505 00 High Lubricity Engine Oil 5W-40 - G 052 167 A2

- (Part No: ZGB 115 QLB 00 462 - RRP £32.90 inc VAT for 5 litres)

Valvoline DuraBlend Diesel SAE 5W-40 (semi-synthetic)

Carlube 5W40 PD Triple R VW 505 01 full synthetic

Use the Dipstick you Dipstick! ;)

Aim for the middle of the two lines.

To fill up take the oil filler cap off (ontop of metal rocker cover) poking through the plastic cover and pour the oil in there

Plastic ;)

Top of the cross hatched area is the larget, 1 litre from the bottom min mark.

The engine is seriously short of oil. I would strongly advise against driving the car until you have topped up with sufficient oil so that the level is within the 'hatched' section of the dipstick.
