I found your article full of useful information for the Fabia and it was well presented. All Fabia owners should read the full text.

Please accept a big thankyou from me for all the useful data within the document.

One point I was not able to confirm unless I missed the issue, was if the tappets, as I suspect, are in fact self adjusting.

regards and a happy new year

I have an "oh no" story to go with this little article. Shortly before I joined Gordon Lamb Skoda as a Trainee Salesman, the 'Smart Repair' lad borrowed 'the' only Fabia the dealer had 1 Friday night. The lad borrowed the car on the understanding that he would valet it on the Saturday and have it in the showroom by 10am for the unveiling of the new car. Like a little open day.....

The only problem was he was that impressed with the all new fabia's handling that he got carried away and had a bit of a hairy moment before parking it in a ditch, leaving the axle waiting paitently on the road.....

Some how the lad kept his job, and still works for the Gordon Lamb group today, and ironay of this story is he has just picked up his 05 Fabia vRS !!!!

The other great news is he will be at the JBS open day in April, so if anyone wants to give him a slap for being a muppet i am sure he will oblige.

I was very impressed with this article, it's very concise although I can't seem to find much about the 1.4 8v engine. Does it even exist I wonder and is it lifted out of the Felicia like the rumours say?

Other than that, good job, thanks.

Hi Jason, the rear wiper 'problem' is an inbuilt failsafe to stop the motor from burning out when the screen is frozen during winter. It is designed to blow the fuse if the wiper is frozen to the screen. Must have replaced a couple of dozen for customers last winter - Keep a spare fuse or 2 next winter.

Greetings,

Congrats on a very informative article but perhaps someone could assist me on a couple of points please ? My five and a half year old Elegance T.D.I. was retired last weekend, for another big brother version (Estate).

I have found however that there are a couple of bits of kit "missing" on the new version and I am puzzled as to if they are there but not working (could they have got through the P.D.I. ?) or are they not now fitted ?

The first is the seatbelt reminder, there is no visual or audible signal. I know that this could be regarded has an extension of the nanny state but over 5 and a half years it did remind me a couple of times that I could be facing a fine during a couple of "senior moments" !

The second thing is that yesterday, has I was driving I happened to glance down at the dash and I noticed that a red signal indicated that my hatch was not closed. There had been no audible warning. I was convinced that this facility was present on my previous car, was it or was this just another one of my "senior moments" ? If it was, is it not now fitted on new models ?

Many thanks, p.s. the black upholstery is much more "practical" than the creme stuff i.m.o.

Thank you for the brief and important details!

Reference rear windscreen washer problems. Mine, on my Fabia 1.9TDI Estate, stopped working and hasa jsut done so again. The first time, it was the pipe leading from the waher bottle to the rear screen that had come adrift under the bonnet. A bit of a pig to get at.

Very informative piece thanks, but I am trying to find out exactly what revisions were made to the Fabia Vrs in the 05 facelift, specificaly to the final drive ratio. Did the changes affect the perceived performance in any way. I will shortly be selling my wifes Mazda MX5 to buy a Furby. Cheers Charlie.

Maybe too concise, going to look at a 1.4 8v tomorrow, hopefully it is Felicia derived and i haven't got to worry about a cam belt change
