Bye Bye Octy I ..., Hello Octy II

Both cars look great mate - they are a credit to you (and your new found car detailing skills).

Watch out for the detailing bug though - its another wallet drainer!

Fuel crisis what fuel crisis!

I kee pgetting in the Mk2 & driving off to places.

Popped over to Blackpool for that VAG mini meet on Sunday before work.

webDSC00290.jpg

That was the only other Skoda there, I wonder who's that could be

(obviously I do know)

After the meet I drove to work,

at posted speed limit or slightly less through some massive thunderstorms on M62

These were the figures according to the trip computer.

The 2 litre engine definitely takes a lot longer to get warmed through for better economy though

Nice economy mate good results for a 2.0:thumbup: i hope i can get similar results from my 1.9 when i get it.

I've found that you definitely have to change gear more often with the 6 speed box, it seems to prefer to be kept above 1500rpm (50 in 6th).

Although I think the fat tyres have a bearing on low speed rolling resistance too. Fuel economy jumps up on runs over 50 miles, the shortest runs I do are my commute which is 16 miles, but as I work odd shift times fortunately I don't see much traffic. I walk into town for shopping etc...

That's a bad run of luck you had, hopefully it's all over now for the rest of your ownership.

It's a good looking motor and some impressive economy results

Happy ending ...

Obviously I had a new windscreen put in a few weeks ago.

What I hadn't posted on here was that I pulled over the truck that the stone came off.

Driver was quite civil & we exchanged details, spoke with his boss, offered to pay my insurance excess. Took a few photos of the truck & it's low loader deck still covered in stones as a back up.

Well despite several of my friends disbelief ... the cheque has arrived from the road haulier!!.

Don't you just love a happy ending!

Same the pheasant wasn't insured though!!!

Well a year on ...

Still a happy mk2 driver with 31,000 miles covered during the year, so it's now on 90k

It's now fitted with one of those Witson (MFD2 clones) and it's had a VAGCOM session to get rid of the seat belt bong, turned on anti hijack, emergency brake light assist & 2nd rear fog light. Big thanks to Wardy.

Oh & the fuel computer was re-calibrated ...

Before;

computer 57mpg, real 52mpg

After;

computer 50.9mpg, real 50.86mpg

computer 47.7mpg, real 47.68mpg

cheers ... Darren

looks spot on

What this photo doesn't show is the black ice,

the snow was melting off the tree tops in the sun,

then falling onto the shaded road that was well below freezing.

It's about 1000m high there.

I've driven the same road in the summer too, it's less scary then!!
