Todays antics. Water in footwells continued........

Featured Replies

Continued from my other thread below, hope people don't mind me starting another thread:

http://briskoda.net/forums/octavia-i/water-drivers-side-rear-footwell/105108/

This is what I have discovered today. And a few questions if people know the answers.

Found this under the sound proofing, not sure what its is.

This part wasnt sealed properly, filled with water, looked like the source of my leak as all the water was around this area. I chipped away some of it to get it off.

Image107Large.jpg

The part taken off

Image105Large.jpg

On taking it off, this is what was underneath. Water instantly drained out of the car.

Is it a drain hole ?

Image100Large.jpg

Is this bit sealed correctly ?

Image102Large.jpg

Slowly drying it out now.

I dont see how that can be the source, its just the lowest point of the floorpan.

Yeah that won't be where the leak is coming from. Has the car had any a new windscreen fitted at any point?

Thinking about it, your right.

I just cant find water elsewhere to see where its coming from.

Oh and by the way water leaks are i nightmare to find! I hate doing them at work!!!

Not that I know of and its nearly 2 years since owning the car.

Grrrrrrrrrr.:(

The only way I have found where water leaks in on previous cars is to get someone to spray it with the hose pipe. While you sit in the car and check for signs of water coming through.

Dealer has it tomorrow, if they dont find it out this is what Im doing the weekend.:D

Pollen filter?

Otherwise have you got after market speakers and cut the door membrane to allow them to fit?

Pollen filter?

I keep checking it in the wet and cant see any water getting through from there.

Standard speakers, but Im glad you mentioned that. I replaced a speaker not long after I bought the car, will check that out tonight. Cheers:thumbup:

Hows yours coming along? I have gone at it full steam and have taken all the interior our including carpet and underlay. Am taking the opportunity to clean the interior fully as its a bit dirty as you would expect......bring out the shout spray! Have washed the underlay through with lots of water as i am going to try to reuse it.

On mine some of those rubber grommets you can see above have been covered with the factory bitumen type deadening and where its cracked in a few places the water has got through so i have carefully scraped it off and will repaint it with bitumen type paste after to seal them. To be double sure i am going to paint them from the underside too.

It looks like the water is coming in from the scuttle as the firewall was damp and there was water on the steering column elbow. Im drying it out at the moment, so i can then test it by spraying the car and see where its coming from. Best thing apparently is to spray the car like it was raining from above rather than pointing the water at where you think the leak is (if that makes any sense)........its meant to help allow the water to follow its natural path thus seeing where it leaks.

Will post some pics when i get the chance.

Are you going to run any extra wiring or put any new sound deadening down to improve the car?

  • Author

I've managed to totally dry the sound dendening and carpet, so I'm going to reuse it, but getting a quote on new underlay and carpet supplied only tomorrow at the dealer as there is an earthy smell, but hopefully the fabreeze will help with that.

The one rubber gromit as in the picture above has now been sealed nicley with silicon. Also checked the door speaker I fitted, but all I could find was dust, so no water had enetered there.

I hoping its the aircon drain block, whiched caused water to soak the car, but I've only noticed the water on the 2 times its poured down, so finger points to water entering the car that way.

If the dealer doesnt find out, Im going to do the same as you and do the fake rain test the weekend.

Dealer wont have to remove much either as most of the interior is in the boot.

Ill let you know the outcome tomorrow.

Car went in the garage this morning.

Just had a call from them saying they have done water tests and can see water is entering the car from the bulkhead, but cannot help me any further as they think its to do with the bodywork or windowscreen.

Going to have to deal with another skoda dealer in halesowen now as they have a bodyshop, then can hopefully help me more.

Grrrrrrrrrr, Hate cars.

  • Author

The other Skoda dealers body shop has a 2 week waiting list and cannot quote me on a hourly rate for looking into the problem. Why I dont know ? But Ive asked for the body shop guy to give me a call when he gets back in.

i was really suprsied at how quickly the deadening/underlay dries out, the carpet i think is 102 plus vat, def gonna change the carpet, just waiting on the dealer coming back to me to confirm details.

So your dealer cant help, thats no good just saying oh we cant find it. Did they indicate if they thought it was the screen. Have you checked the scuttle and the drains in there? I w3ould check mine, but i cant get the damn scuttle off........another go tonight!!!!

By the sound of it, it could well be rain rather than the aircon.

Mine is not the aircon, out of interest what if you drove through a big puddle, could the water come up onto the seal and through the door seal....does anyone know if water could/would come in this way?

So pee'd off, On returning to work after collecting the car a work mate noticed a scratch and ding on the bonnet by the drivers wiper arm.

Called the dealer and told them, their comment being " We only drove it into the garage area and did a water test".

I said its right in the area you were working and you removed the skuttle panel didnt you. Bet they struggled getting the wiper arm off and brought it down on the bonnet.

Just adds to the stress. Grrrrrrrrrr

I know it wasnt there yesterday and my car was dirty, so you could see it was freshly done as it make the area cleaner.

Also called RAC Windowscreens and its going to have the front window seals checked tomorrow and re fitted if needed.

mate, dont let them get away with that, speak to the manager straight away.......maybe you can come to some arrangement with the works needed.

I might get my windscreen done anyway too to be sure, as there is no real halfway measure with this type of job. When you start replacing carpet etc the last thing you want to do is find another leak later on down the line!!!

Leaving work now to kick some a$$ at the dealers.

Spoken to the dealer about the scratch and ding.

They are going to look into it as a good will gesture and will be calling me in the morning.

Here is a picture of the scratch and the ding.

Ding was just below the sctratch right on the bend line of the boot.

Image114Large.jpg

This picture went a bit camp

Image113Large.jpg

Also on pulling up the carpet getting home I noticed this. Not that I mind it the way it is but its not sealed at all.

Image109Large.jpg

Now having to dry the carpets again. Grrrrrrr.

Sorry If i moan to much, my car is my pride & joy.

Im not having a good day. :):(

SWMBO is also going to kill me, I've used so many towls over the past 2 weeks. :D

Woo Hoo!

Woo Hoo!

Is it fixed then?

That scratch they did is bloody terrible mate! I would have gone mental. Literally. If they don't repair it, get a tool belt with some hammers hanging off it and browse they're showroom!!

I hate scratches. They keep me up at night.
