Not sorted, but where the water is coming is has now been found.

Dealer hasnt phoned me today as promised on the scratch & dent, but I will be calling them tomorrow angrily.

Went to RAC windowscreens to have my window looked at to see if it was that causing me the problem. After a quick check he said not a chance, its the original window and sealed good and proper.

They then went on and said, bring it into the garage and we will try and help you identify the problem, didnt expect that.

Drove car into garage and they appeared with a hose, lifting up the bonnet and pulling up the carpet, then poured water onto the skuttle panel.

After seconds of water hitting my car, water was apearing in the footwell, from the location in the picture below. theres your problem he said, smack in my face.:D

The dealers had the car all yesterday and didnt see that, I cant believe it. :thumbdwn: A massive thank you letter will be going to RAC Window Screens, just for being so helpful.

Problem isnt sorted, but the source has now been found. Going to jack up the car later and see whats the other side of the leak point and then look at the best way to seal it up.

Woo Hoo!

Glad you're getting it sorted! I guess something must be blocked to cause it to come in there.

Going to have to deal with another skoda dealer in halesowen now as they have a bodyshop, then can hopefully help me more.

That's "All Electric" and they are truly abysmal.

Avoid them like the plague

Hopefully no need to visit them now, last dealings I had with them wasnt the best.

Glad you've found the problem, bit concerned though about the scratch saga though as my car is due in to the same dealer on Monday for a service.

I have to say that the RAC Windscreen guys are great!

That's proper customer care for you. Obviously someone who realises that his business and hence wage is customer driven. Great to hear.

I waited while an RAC guy fitted a new screen on my dad's car in the summer. He was a legend too. Really skilled at his job, and made me cups of tea too.

RAC will always be my first choice from now on.

It's about time more people realised that the public need customer care. Bad garages should be burnt to the ground. Screw them, and their crap 'mechanics'.

...today Bodge is ranty......

You shouldnt need to bung anything up, it sounds like you have a blocked drain somewhere. A leaf could be bedded in the pipe that drains the scuttle area. You dont want to try and stop the leak, you need to find the cause. Blocking it will just lead to water buildup elsewhere.

Take the boxed area around the pollen filter and remove all traces of leaf, muck and other general crap.

Put a new pollen filter in making sure all seals are good. I'd rub some silicon grease on the rubber seals to make them swell so they are as new.

Also make sure you check any drain plugs as these could have become blocked. Pipe cleaners are great for making sure they are clear to water.

As above sealing it would just trap the water and cause rust. Big  to the windscreen guy though :)

Also how about possibly trying to stick a piece of wire up the hole from inside the car - it will help you locate the other side of the "hole" and also might dislodge something enroute and help to clear the problem.

I have cleared the skuttle area and unblocked the wheel arch areas.

Going to take all your advice on board and poke around with anything that will fit in the holes before sealing it up.

Hopefully more light will be shed looking under the car in that area to.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

any chance you have another pic of the area at a bit more of a distance. I think mine has some sealent from a failed previous repair on that seam.

Developments today.

Good news and Good / Bad News.

The good News

Skoda called today and agreed to repair the dent and scratch. Woo Hoo! Got to call them tomorrow to arrange a day for next week.

Good / Bad News

Found where the water is coming in from the outside of the car. Its a weld thats not been finished, so god knows how many Octavias have this flaw or mine was the last one made on a friday. Will have to confirm this flaw, but I'm pretty sure its been there the life off the car.

Water must have been leaking into the car from new, only reason its appeared in the footwells now is that over the past 2 weeks I have been parking on a slope at work facing up, causing the water to run to the rear footwell.

I couldnt take pictures of it before as I couldnt get a camera into position, but I have after.

I sealed it up with Silicon as a temporary measure. Where you see the silicon in the picture is not where the missing weld was, I have put a blob above it to deflect it away and also filled the hole underneath with silicon. Imaging following the weld round below the silicon to fine the missing weld.

The biggest compliant letter is going to Skoda, as my carpets are not the best cause of the flooding and the underlay has broken away in areas. *subject to me being right about the unfinished weld.

I'm going to try and get this sorted without cost to myself.

Water entry is like this, dark blue is visible water, light blue is behind the panels.

Missing weld was about here on the suspension panel joing in rear panel of the engine bay, following the silicon down, where the black circle is.

Now I'm going to book my car in and get my Cat Back Exhaust fitted to cheer myself up.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Well fingers crossed I've sorted it, I'm pretty confident I have:O

Can someone with an octavia, please check the area in question for me and see if you can see about 10mm of weld missing, where the suspension panel meets the rear panel of the engine bay ?

cheers, matt

Best I could find in my image collection.

does this help.

It cant be photographed because of its position but can be seen by eye, if you follow the yellow weld round to the right passed where I can highlight.

Just went outside to do my rear brake pads, as soon as the rear wheel was off the heavens opened, so now back inside. Grrrrr:thumbup:

I see where you mean on your pics, have looked at mine and it seems ok, there seems to be a constant weld running down from where you have highlighted above.

Its been terrible weather here and i havent been able to do anything on the car. I went out today and the footwell was flooded. The car hasnt been used and the bulkhead is now wet and so is the remaining bulkhead deadening. So i know now its the rain that has built up in the scuttle thats gotta be causing the leak rather than dodgy door seals or some other ingress point.

If only i could get the F*****G scuttle tray off!!!! I will try again when its not raining.......am sure its going to break!!!

Best thing to do with the skuttle panel.

In the middle the 2 panels join, pull up from here at the same angle as the windows, but upwards, if that makes sense. Does take some pulling power.
