SERIOUS mongrelling next week

Featured Replies

 Car is booked in now to have what is likely to be the final engine upgrades done. Going to be going something like this

  • Remove turbo from the head.
  • Remove complete head entirely, inspect pistons
  • Set up complete head workings into new (ported ;)) head
  • Install (ported ;)) inlet manifold, new gasket
  • Install RACE injectors in too (I still don't know the PD injector bolt torque :o)
  • Renew cambelt whilst it's all in bits (only 25k old, but whilst it's in bits....)
  • New PD150 (stronger ;)) headbolts
  • New bolts for cam hold down bits, and the injectors
  • New glowplugs in new head (has been tricky to start recently)
  • Refit turbo with new (donated, thanks Mr Skud :D) exhaust gasket

Hoping to do it in a relaxed 2 day session. I've booked time off work to do it so there should be lots of photos. ;)

Looking forward to it. What stumbling blocks do you think there will be? PS: It will be in a proper garage, so plenty of tools. I could really do with knowing the PD injector bolt torques as that's key to the whole thing pretty much. Cardata should provide plenty of other info, along with some special PDFs I have. ;)

looking forward to the pics.

get to it!

Radical goings on there in Devon. Ever the numero uno of Fabias you are....::-):

Btw - I'm sure you're gonna inspect the race camshaft - I was told it's not surface-hardened.

We're in the age of mental dervs. It's all good!

Good luck with that little lot Jason! Whens it being mapped to suit? ;)

If you think its been tricky to start recently, wait til you get your new injectors in!

Does this little lot mean you can bin the LPG/NOS? :P

IIRC the injector holders are torqued to 18Nm - which is "snug" on the old scale.... My torque wrench only reads down to 20 (argos special)....

Make sure you get your tuner to map the "start-up conditions" leaned out what with the race cam and BF injectors - otherwise it wont start :D

Should be a monster with all that little lot installed

Got to get me a passenger ride if we ever meet ;)

Glad the exhaust manifold gasket is coming to some use  Just think a piece i supplied is going in a beast of an engine, hopefully it wont be the part that fails :o

Is there a warranty attached to it if it does? :P

Re: Injectors. I heard figures of something like 25Nm, then wind back 225 degrees. But do not know if this is accurate.

That wouldn't even be finger tight surely

25nm minus 225 degrees sounds a little strange to me too.

18Nm sounds much better to me, but I'm no specialist:)

I have not got the foggiest,

[goes delving into his special PDFs for Skoda's opinion :D - wish him luck!]

I have the same special pdf's ill have a look too

injectors: you tighten until you hit a dead stop. then you wind back 225 deg and secure the nut - good luck trying to get a torque wrench on it unless you have some really cool tools.

The block that holds down the injectors - that's the 18Nm IIRC.....

Good luck Jase - you're an inspiration tbh....:thumbup::thumbup:
