Mongrel video to 110mph

Featured Replies

Well, when you're on a private road it's rude not to make use of the lack of speed limits. :)

Not sure if I posted this before but what the heck. This was from a while back - Before my diff and before my new clutch. Greasy wet private road too. :( Still, it got up to 110 quick enough once it got past the traction control. Hopefully will be better soon.

PS: Indication was for novelty value as of course there was no-one else there. :D Go go, ASR!

Sounds really good love the traction control light flashing. Good job mate

Very good! Plenty quick! :)

Sounds nice :D left a few stars and a comment lol.

Very nice:D, but whats with the two warning lights on the dash?! Are thay on because of mods?

CEL is because of mods, airbag is because I'm too scared to plug my pd100 airbag ECU in to my pd130 wiring - just in case of a conflict. I might say sod it and just do it. :D Also, my passenger airbag is not in my car :D

so your not insured then!

so your not insured then!

Providing the insurance company is aware of the airbags not being connected and have agreed to cover it then it's totally legal. I used to know a guy that removed the passenger airbag to install a 8" screen to watch movies during long journeys (for passengers, not the driver!) and it was all above board.

Also, my passenger airbag is not in my car :D

I'm sure you can by wireless transmitter/receiver kits from Maplins! ;)

so your not insured then!

How do you work that out then?

As long as your insurance company know and Jason has a schedule saying they know he is covered.

Jason is one of the lucky few to have an insurance policy that covers any modification except a capacity increase - no longer available to new customers though :(

Sounds nice realy!

wow thats really interesting, i just assumed insurance companies would not insure you if you'd taken off safety equipment that comes with the car as standard.

Is it very expensive to have a policy with such flexibility towards mods?

It is for me, as I basically have to accept whatever they tell me my renewal is. I've tried getting other quotes and Adrian Flux put in a reasonable effort last December. :)

I didn't think running without airbags is an insurance issue? In the event of a repair when they would usually have gone off it will be cheaper as my dash will still be 100% intact. :D (PS: I only really removed the passenger bag to save the 6kg to 7kg, and I rarely have anyone else in the car - Passengers have to sign waivers before getting a ride  )

II didn't think running without airbags is an insurance issue?
It's a factory option to have a switch to turn the passenger airbag on or off, so I assumed the same.

Try Brentacre insurance!

They are VAG specialists.

They Quoted me on a full spec Golf 2.3 V5 show car, modified engine, and fully modified outsides, and they came in nearly £1000 cheaper then my box standard Octavia with any other company.

lol whatever guys think what you want but at the end of the day insurance companies make money by NOT paying out!!

If you have a crash and a passenger attempts to claim and you've not had the airbag on they aint gonna pay! the off switch on the airbag is for child seats that face backwards their must be a million stickers on cars stating that!

IMHO

Impressive car.

Have to agree about the insurance issue though (without reading the exact terms of your particular cover) - it is possible that if someone is injured and the lack of an operating airbag likely exacerbated those injuries and your insurers were not explicitly informed that they were underwriting that risk - they will pursue you for that 'loss'.

Such great acceleration and without you trying to make it really quick.

doesmt actually sound like a diesel in there either....well, not to my ear anyway!!

Top work Jason :)

It doesn't. Sounds not like a diesel, and not like a petrol. Its a kind of raughty, chuffy, wheezy, noisy.... hard to describe it. :)

It sounds like a mongrel ;)

Quality!

Regarding insurance. With my insurance company "More Than" it says only to declare modifications to Boost Acceleration or Top end speed. Somthing like that.

Sounds really nice jason

Wowzers, thats pretty impressive Jason

Nice to see that Skoda drivers manage to use their indicators

even on private roads!!!

I'm not sure if there was a glitch in the streaming of the video from the net, as your braking appeared to go from 90 to 50 instantly,

unless of course you're now in a neck brace!!

Enjoyed that, nice one.

Good stuff

Nice to see you were running the bare minimum of fuel too, to maximise acceleration :D
