vRS power limits

Featured Replies

As probably most of you have gathered, the Red Devil is running a bit more power at the mo. All the hardware is now in the car and holding up well and apart from a few minor adjustments (with a large hammer). The car is not mapped at the mo but is still capable of inducing a semi. :o

Amongst other mods I have fitted a Blitz boost controller, which I find very handy in controlling all that power down to a more managable amount. At the mo I am running about 1.5Bar with 15% gain on the controller. The turbo (GT30)is fully spooled at roughly 3.5K RPM and will pull hard and maintain boost without breaking sweat to 7.5K, thats 4K of utter madness. The car is semi stripped out with lighter seats with all the unnecessary bits gone from under the bonnet and is running all the goodies i.e. Quaife dif, KW3'S, 6 speed 02M box etc. All this work has gone into the car but I still cannot run anywhere near full power as it will wheel spin in every gear bar 6th. If I have a passenger I have to turn the boost down further, if conditions are right and I am alone, I can run 1.8bar with 20% gain (warp drive :eek::eek:).

This all begs the question. Is it worth fitting a bigger turbo, than say a GT28 onto an Octy vRS at all. I have to say though, the above settings would kill my old set up. So those of you thinking of fitting a bigger turbo, beware, you have been warned.

DO IT ANY WAY, IT'S BRILLIANT.

It sounds like TRACTION is the limit, not the power. ;) Whats the widest front tyres you can fit? :D

Why do you have to turn the boost down with a passenger on board? Cos they get scared!?

Power is nothing without traction, said the man from JBS. ;)

Spos I could fit some WRC arches and bigger wheels but Carlos Fandango is not my style.

It's the smell!!

Extra weight = more wheel spin.

This, I can only dream about. LOL. I would love to do it but how much does all this cost to install. I might sell some organs on fleaby 2 kick things off.

Really? I would've thought more weight would give better traction?

So your running a standard map with all that on, is that safe for the engine?

Don't think it quite works that way, well, not in my car anyway.

Who said I was running a standard map. Just not tweeked for optimum performance i.e. extra timing, maf etc.

go for the bigger turbo but put a 4wheel drive chain in form one of the 4x4 octys that should help put the power down on the road and also sort a bit of the spin out as well. i have looked into this and i should be simple for a person of your caliber the only thing i can see stoping you is laying your hands on a jig to put the chassy on to put the 4x4 drive chain in.

4 wheel drive is for whimps who can't drive.;)

Now rear wheels driven by v10.......Hmmm. :)

lol ok but you wont sit there and spin up with 4x4 you will just spin up and slide sideways lol always looks good lol so your not for one on the 4x4 then. why don't you try just putting it in my garage and pretend you never had the car i will be quite happy to take it off your hands if its such a problem lol

FWD cars and big power dont always tend to go for this reason.

My original intention was to build a billy big ******** engine for my Octy, but having figured that traction is an issue with just a remap, with alot more horses under the bonnet it would've proven negative to forward momentum.

This is why I prefer RWD cars.

Some 4wd systems cant cope with big power either, and its far cheaper to upgrade rwd components as well.

Sure it can be fun in fwd I guess, but I'd rather get the power down, so I'd always opt for a smaller turbo as a result.

RWD conversion next then Des? Think of the powerslides

Have you thought about fitting the diesel 02M box?

The longer ratios would help with traction, you certainly have enough power/torque for it:D:D

It's fantastic in mine, it would be mind blowing in yours!

Des, can i be your bitch and ride around with you all day?

The sun visor with our names on is optional!?!

des 245/35/18 PZcorsas will go under the std arches (minus liners) and have been known to allow superior traction.......

You need put it into reserve and drive backwards then you're traction issues will be lessened! (Although I admit this may cause other issues concerning control etc.)

Serious question though, how do you find torque steer on with your diff etc?

How far have you taken the 'stripping out'? Are you talking irreversable removals(seats mounts etc) or 'I could put it all back in in a few hours' type stripped out?

I managed to get 81kg worth of..erm.. 'unwanted comfort' out of my 4x4 this weekend and plan to get a little more extreme over the next few evenings.. :D

I've got one sitting in the garage. TBH the petrol 02M seems fine for the time being.

Don't seem to have much of a problem, wheel spin in a straight line most of the time.
