You diesel boys

Featured Replies

I do really miss the sound of my old vrs with the blue flame system, I never grew tired of listening to it but I have to say that, that is all I now miss about it.

sorry, did you just compare the noise of a 5.7 V8 with glasspack exhaust to that of a diesel with a decat  having heard Weibo's Fabia vRS with a blueflame exhaust etc, there's no way it would get close to the sound of a "normal" petrol with a nice exhaust system let alone a big V8

:)

Since the "nice noise" of a dual plane V8 with a typical Glasspack system is largely down to having a bad primary design, not making the same sort of noise is probably a good thing!

I don't think I'll ever "miss" the sound of an engine droning away at over 4_000 rpm for hours on end when I can have one turning at about half that speed.

Having a burble on tickover, quiet during cruise, perfect when accelerating and then to cap it all,top end just sounds fantastic.

Mmmmm, Borla:D

Oh,anyone who mentions fuel economy...its not the point.I'm just thinking about what cars should sound like:thumbup:

My first car was a petrol. The diesels I've had since have been better cruisers, faster, more economical and sounded better inside under hard acceleration (think 1930s Mercedes SSK(L), but quieter).

I know diesels are fast.I know diesels cruise well,I know diesels sound lovely and quiet and are economical.

My point is,where is the warm feeling you get from roof off (or not) and something sounding like a sports car.The best I used to get with the wife's Fabia was to hurridly put the window down if a TVR was coming the other way or overtaking.just to listen to it:O

Everything has become so clinical in the world of motoring.Partly why I am getting classic car fever. The good old days of petrol.I actually grin going fora spin now:D

(Except for using our X Trail with all the kit when I need anaethetised motoring;))

Mine without any exhaust (or downpipe) sounded rather interesting

still wasn't enough to wake me up though :D

whatever the resaons for it sounding like it does, a big V8 still sounds loads better than a 1.9TDI with a decat - i'm thinking of the recently linked to videos of a vxr8 etc

:)

But that's like me saying my first car was a small engined diesel. Sure it was economical, but since then all the petrols I've had have been better cruisers, faster, much better to drive and sounded better.

Apples and onions :D

I had an old MG Maestro once with the twin 40 Webers on now that was a good sounding engine apart from the timing chain

I have to drive a diesel for work, no one in there right mind would ever compare the sound of any diesel engine to that of a decent petrol one.

I've owned, and still do own a few glorious sounding cars, for example - Alfa 1.5 boxer on webber carbs, Alfa GTV6, Supercharged Rover V8 on carbs, Honda VTEC, Subaru 2.0 turbo boxer.

These are the cars that make you turn the stereo off, and wind the window down in a tunnel, my Mondeo would wipe the floor with most of the above in terms of performance/economy/comfort etc, but I never turn the stereo down or open the windows in tunnels.

Yer I do miss my old CTR with its BuddyClub exhaust and induction kit, it used to scream :D

I dont miss filling it up with fuel twice a week
