You diesel boys

Featured Replies

Done the Fabia vRS thing and it was great.Sure the Octavia tdi is great too.

Just done a minor tweak to my (petrol) car which has resulted in me not wanting to put the radio on for a week.Car sounds fantastic. So much so,I can't stop smiling.Or driving. And no,its not boy racer stuff.

Was always a big thing to me,how a car sounds.TVR's etc.Big part of the car experience.

Diesels might be quick and frugal.but don't you miss that bit? Honestly?

Ran a GM Camaro IROC-Z 1986 (years ago) - V8 5.7 liter 10:1 compression ratio with glasspack freeflow dual silencers - it made the earth shake.

350 bhp with an additional 150bhp nitrous system...

And no I don't miss it - IMHO my Fabia vRS is the same stuff but on a smaller far more discrete scale.....

Yup - and that's one of the reasons I'm back in a petrol car that revs to 7k rpm and sounds gorgeous as standard ;)

When I had my Fabia vRS I did wonder could you ever like the sound of a diesel engine... Now I've changed cars I think the answer to that one is most certainly no! :D

I don't think I'll ever "miss" the sound of an engine droning away at over 4_000 rpm for hours on end when I can have one turning at about half that speed.

I'm a diesel convert and will never go back to petrol, it has saved me so much in fuel in the past six months and the tax is cheaper.

Yeah I miss the noise but I'm that age where I'm getting old and need a car for the a-b purpose and saving money

No.

The only thing I miss on a petrol car is the cheapness at the pumps.

What petrol car did you come from?!

Chris

I do miss the noise, which is why I think the future is a two car plan :)

(in my world anyway ;))

Think he might mean the price per litre of petrol, compared to diesel

Ah that makes sense. Although easy to negate if your petrol car has a taste for Super Ultimate OptiPower unleaded :D

Petrol rocks, btw

Chris

My mates ka made me want a petrol.:o

Here is a sample of what 200bhp 1.6 16v on bike throttle bodies sounds like......

Defo worth the download, turn those speakers up!

straight pipes on a diesel are the answer - and if you make the rear one bigger it sounds better I'm told....

Perfect if you want your car to sound like a bus or lorry :P:D

Ive been thinking about making a new exhaust. maybe a pipe that comes from the turbo then bends towards the side of the car and out of the side under the sill

That should stop the rear end getting all black

Nice to smoke pedestrians/cyclists as well :rolleyes:

sorry, did you just compare the noise of a 5.7 V8 with glasspack exhaust to that of a diesel with a decat  having heard Weibo's Fabia vRS with a blueflame exhaust etc, there's no way it would get close to the sound of a "normal" petrol with a nice exhaust system let alone a big V8

:)
