Remap news...

Featured Replies

For anyone thats interested, I've just recevied an email from Superchips to explain that their Bluefin system is now available for the vRS TDi!! :) Check their website... This allows one to enable/disable the remap at will....

Similarly, speaking with Revo last week and they also have their own switcher unit now available...

Very similar gains by both companies....

Am seriously tempted...but which company?

Ive got a Bluefin on my vRS petrol and im very impressed. The aftersales was good to when I messed it up by not de-activating it beore it went in to the dealer for a new fog light (smashed by a stone). I dint think they would plug in their wizzy computer thing and do a load of updates.

I tried to plug the Bluefin back in and of course all it had on it was the factory setting and not the re-map. Anyway, one call to technical and a text message came back within 10mins saying my software was ready to download. No fuss, no drama. I thought I was going to be in for a row so very pleased with the service.

Cant comment on the other company, im sure they are good too.

Thats certainly one mod to keep an eye for when my TDI has a few more miles on it.

It will be interesting to see how forgiving it is to drive with all that torque building up so quickly in the rev range- especially in the wet. But 201 BHP - wow !

Now thats pretty good service.. I wouldnt expect others to do the same without an admin charge of somesort!!

I thought superchips was a bolt on chip though ? Do they do proper remaps too then ?

Yes. Superchips Bluefin is a removable remap. - check out their website.

Revo (or one of their many approved centres) will reflash your car foc if yours is wiped by a dealer..I don't know if this is lifelong though? :)

The Revo is £650 (£500 for the remap, £150 for the switcher box), Superchips seems to suggest all in for £500... I believe discounts exist for Briskodian members.

I'm told that Revo are planning to target Skoda dealers soon to offer customers a remap from the off!!! This is good news... :)

Interesting, from reputable companies too. So if you have one of these, being a bit more careful than L8JDO, can you avoid warranty 'complications' should it need to go back to the stealers? Would a record not be held on the ECU, if so what is the benefit of this rather than a normal map, just adjust the style of driving rather than the power of the car.

Looking at the superchip system, it would look like you would be ok as long as you reset before you go to the dealers. The bluefin box connects to the diagnostic socket on your car to do the re-map. Then when you want to change back, just plug it in again and change back to factory settings. As far as I understand it, the ECU does not keep record of the settings.

I would expect this system is also useful if you dont want the car to be re-mapped all the time, especially if the engine hasn't much mileage on it. Keep it factory for going to and from work during the week, then turn it up for the weekend to have some fun.

I was going to leave the re-map for a while, but with flexibility like this it would not harm to have it from the off as long as you are sensible.

Some already are. ;)

Spot on. I generally turn mine off for the winter months and switch it on for the summer. It also has other uses (not that ive tried them yet), you can immobilse the car with the Bluefin (ie if you wanted to leave the vehicle for a long period of time - 2 weeks in a car park?) and you can also get diagnostic codes using it. Also, Superchips will (aparently) cover anything that effectively fails due to the increase in power that the main dealers wont cover.

I think I paid £600 for mine about 6 months ago, I think its a bit expensive but I guess there is a lot of R & D that goes in to these things.

Incidentally, a guy at work had a re-map done on a PD140 Audi by a not so well known company and it was a lot cheaper (circa £400 I recall). He said it went well but he had a bit of a (as he described it) mis-fire at low revs and when just toodling along in traffic so I guess you get what you pay for.

Overall, I would recommend the Bluefin.

Hi Timo,

Yep your right, I wont leave it activated in future. I simply didnt expect them to plug me in for updates when all I wanted to do was have a front fog light replaced. Lesson learnt for me, I guess its a way for the dealers to make extra money out of Skoda for doing these updates.

some good info here...

I have a custom code map on my ibiza at the moment.. I believe they've mapped quite a few of the police octavias!

Anyone running a cc map ?

I have read on here somewhere that someone was saying that superchips are too "Spiky" and harsh remaps.

The mapped police car line again. Still haven't heard of any personally or know anyone who has driven one. A mate has a CC map on his mk1 vrs seems a gentle progressive power band. Have an Angel on mine and you really know when that kicks in, adds to the fun in my opinion.

Hmm still talking myself into it at the mo

I personally dont find it harsh but I guess its personal taste? Have a look on the superchips site and view the graphs, they look pretty progressive to me although im no expert.

As said in another thread, Superchips offer a 7 day no quibble money back if you dont like it - one of the reasons I bit the bullet in the first place, I felt I couldnt go wrong.
