Air filter @ 80K Service?

Featured Replies

Just had my 80K service @ Skoda Dealers, last time believe me $$$

Noticed that the following had been done:

Oil & Oil Filter

Pollen Filter

But NO Air filter! Is this normal, it had one on it's 40K service. I asked and the guy at Skoda said it wasn't required!?!

Are they hard to change? My car is 2002 TDi Elegance.

they probably looked at it and didn't think it needed doing, excuse to get performance panel filter.

Sounds naughty :)

If it's a 2002 TDI 110 then it is supposed to be changed every 40'000 miles.

It should be changed.

Is it easy enough to do myself? Having hardly everly lifting the bonnet on my car before?

Have you ever fallen off a log? Buy a Haynes manual, and who knows you may never pay to have your car serviced again. Give it a try!:)

Yep, have fallen off a log. And yes have a haynes, just don't have time to service the damn thing as my job takes up all my time. Just wondering if it was as easy to change as my old car, i.e. unclip, lift cover, remove mucky filter, wipe surround, chuck in new filter and clip back.

And I think that asking that here is far more convenient than getting up of my backside and looking for haynes.

Call me lazy, I know, just been a long day...

Should have had at 80k..

Oil

Oil filter

Fuel filter

Pollen filter

Air filter

Assume the cambelt has been done?

Aye, had belt @60k

Dealer has been slap dash in the past, thought I would give them 1 more chance, but they've had their last penny from me, and they've had a lot. Service today came to 300 quid.

Will prolly do myself in future until next belt change.

If you are too lazy to read a book then there is no chance you will be tinkering with engines! Keep paying the money would be my advice.

I'd have my doubts about some dealers/other garages bothering with the pollen filter as it's just too much hassle to remove the scuttle and car owners are not going to go to the trouble to check.

But Do change your air filter cost is minimal and it is very easy. If you can't be arsed to do it get a small child to do it for you!

£300 for what, £50 of parts?

No need to remove the scuttle to do the pollen filter.

£144 labour,

£59 Parts

£66 Lubricants (forgot to mention got brake fluid done to)

Few more quid on a few little things and VAT on top!

Yep, just lever the edge up an inch or so, wedge it and its relatively easy to replace in its plastic frame.

Have serviced lots of cars in the past, when I had time and engines weren't all covered with plastic. Don't know this car very well.

Just miss-placed the haynes at the mo, will change filter at the weekend when home. Was only trying to ask a simple question in return for a simple answer.

Cheers Liverpool-Lad

Doesnt look like they changed the fuel filter either.

No need to remove the scuttle to do the pollen filter.

How so Lummox It'd be handy to know.

Sorry I stand corrected.

Do I mean the Plenum Chamber Cover(the plastic bit between windscreen and bonnet). According to my Haynes manual this is removed. Would be handy if there was an easy way. As I am a bit clumsy and in no way a mechanic the last time I removed this I nicked the windscreen using a screwdriver to lever off the cover so am very wary and somewhat embarrased:confused:.

Pop the seal off, lift the front up and slide your hand in, pull out the frame and fit new filter. Refit is reversal of removal.

Well spotted, they really are a bunch of muppets, just read the check sheet and it tell's them that fuel and air filter change every 40k.

Didn't have spark plugs as well, but there is a very good reason for that.;)

Seriously, I bet they didn't remove the wheels and make sure that the brake calipers slid freely.

My wheels weren,t removed either at 40K to check brakes etc.Still had the plastic ties on the wheeltrims.Probally looked through and saw the pads were thick and left it:thumbdwn:Got new fuel filter and air filter too but 40K is too long for those before changing i think.

Not part of any service to remove the wheels so dont panic about that.

wow and i was moaning about £190 for the same service plus some welding on the exhaust at my local garage.

the garages seem to be charging more in labour than the people who design the cars - i'll be doing my own servicing from now on

always find a good dealer/indy that people reccomend and try and talk with the mechanic whilst hes working on your car as you get to see your car up on ramps etc and find stuff out.
