VRS power steering problems

Featured Replies

Hi there

I've got an 06 Fabia Vrs with 20,000miles on the clock which I have had from new.

I have twice had a problem with the power steering becoming stiff. The dealer has checked and each time the steering pump/rack has lost fluid. They replenish the fluid but says they can't find any leaks and all the seals are intact. (I have to say the first time it happened I guessed that they they had just forgotton to do the pre delivery checks thoroughly!) They acknowledge that there is a problem but won't replace the rack/pump etc under warranty and won't even discuss the case with Skoda. Skoda themselves when we contacted them have been very helpful and are trying to resolve the problem with the dealer.

Has anybody else had problems with their steering systems mysteriously losing fluid or is it just my car? I love the car but am somewhat disillusioned with my dealer!!

Hello!

The steering rack itself is probably filling up with fluid internally. I've read of peoples doing this on here.

Theres some really knowledgeable people on here suggest you post your woe on the fabia forum as they might miss you here.

Hello and welcome

Sorry, can't help you but as Isinglass says, if you post up in the Fabia section then there'll be people falling over themselves to give advice or ideas.

Welcome to Briskoda. :) I have moved your thread to this forum where you are more likely to get advice.

Kick up a fuss at the dealers and point them in the direction of Briskoda or honestjohns. Where they can see for themselves the common faults that can occur with skodas.

its not unheard of the fluid leaking into the rack gaitors as someone has already said, you will just have to get them to check it again and make sure they release the rack gaitor clip on the track arm to see if any fluid is in there

it usually starts leaking anyway when the gaitors are full

Thanks for the advice. We have decided to ditch our local dealer in Suffolk who refused to change the rack under warranty even when Skoda UK told them to. We are now going to a not so local dealer in Essex recommended by Skoda UK and who are more than happy to change the rack under warranty. We did eventually get a grovelling call from the area sales manager apologising, but short of giving us a brand new Octavia VRS I'm not sure what he can do to get our custom back after this fiasco. Hoping to get the furby smile back on our faces soon.

cheers

VRS Wizz
