Featured Replies

Hi since i got my vrs a year ago i am looking for my 3rd set of tyres, just wondering which tyres last the longest as i got 12k out of the contis and 8k out of the toyos?

Your suggestions please. Have done a search but nothing came up!! the size is standard 205/45/16

Thanks in advance.

Dont know if there available in the certain size your after but you cant wear pirelli p6000's out for love nor money, maybe as they offer little grip but as you want longevity out of a tire your going to have to sacrifice grip, you'd get 20k easy out of p6000's

got 18k on the fronts out of my bridgestone potenza's, one of the best set of tyre's I've ever experianced too... but SSSOOOOO expensive :( they were OE on the GP......

Hmmm. I got 18k + two heavy track days ouyt of my Toyo t-1r's. My F1's did about 15k and there is stil about 4mm left all round.

Michelin pilot sport premacy's. Had a set last ME 30k.... Would last your average person 40k i reckon, easily.

It was the slipperiest 30k i have ever done mind.

A tyre that grips but wears out faster may be cheaper in the long run...

as the one time you need to avoid the deer/cow/cyclist/pedestrian/nutta who pulls out in front of you etc

you will be able to stop without it being painful and/or expensive.

cheers matt.

ps my tyres have lasted..

SC2 15k front and 14k on back.

SC2 15k back and 14k front.

SC2 13k front (now on back)

T1R 13k on back, (new looking so far on front.)

and here's a before and after for my pug's A539's.. the outer edges to the centre.

more than one trackday

how do you find the A539's by the way? or were they just on a set of track day wheels........

Yoko's are a great tyre - but not for the road as they are too soft, the track or tarmac rally they excel on.

Long lasting:

Michelin Energy or Pilot Primacy HP.

The HP is important on the Primacy.

I really like the A539's i only use them on the pug, driving to and from the track, (and round it :) ) they are cheap, £40ish each and grip well in the dry and have the advantage of being nondirectional so can swop left/right to even wear.

i take 2 spares and change to legal tyres to come home ;)

i can't seen to get any more A539's from blackcircles or etyres.

i tried a pair of toyos but the T1-R's didn't last very long on track and weren't as grippy, i've now got some yoko parada-2's on the front but have only done road miles so far.

cheers matt

I must be doing something wrong then:confused: I have the original ContiSport II's on mine, 3+ years old, 21000 miles, about 3mm tread left on front. Ok, they will need changing soon but even so.......and no, I dont granny it by any means. Maybe I got a freak batch that are very hard wearing, but I doubt it.

I think the ContiSports get a rough deal on here, so many people dislike them. For me they are probably the best tyres I have used (and I have had Pirellis/Michelin/Toyo etc etc on other cars so I am qualified to say it).

I dunno, I reckon 12k on a set of decent tyres is worrying. I have no doubt I'll get the 'Contis are ****' Brigade on my back, but I seem to read a lot on here about how people get through tyres a lot sooner than they should. Is it driving style, is it lack of maintainance (incorrect tyre pressure).

So, to answer your question, it's ContiSport II here:thumbup:

I'd be happy with 12k miles on a set, the set that are on mines have lasted 7or 8k

I think you will find its a combination of both.

I too would expect (and get) 20k+ out of a set of decent tyres.

I managed 16k miles on the contis before getting a puncture (they had about 2mm of legal wear left.) Still got the original contis on the back and toyo's on the front.
