WTCC - no smoke?

Featured Replies

Anyone know how much power the Seat TDi's are putting out? I'm intrigued as to how we don't see huge clouds of soot - we've all seen what Jason's car looks like giving it some! Are they using fancy exhaust filters?

I should imagine this really helps, plus they'll have spent thousands and thousands of £££ getting that engine setup right. :)

Also, mine's not too bad - Its only low down it really chucks it out. Once on boost it's reasonable. :) It just looks like the Seat boys have sorted it out low down. I'd like to see a dyno of one of those cars.

What does DOW mean? But thanks for the info, I've trawled the Seat flash site with no joy. 270 hp eh? You entering as a privateer jason?

They do start chucking out soot on the start line when they roll up for the start, noticed it on the Brands coverage. Fine when on song though.

What does "Lubrication - Shell oil" mean would be equally sensible to ask. Dow (aka Dow Corning if they're who I'm thinking of) are a specialist filter manufacturer.

And on the general point of the lack of smoke (and noise) from competition diesels. The FIA have decided to rule that these engines must be more or less smoke free. The huge particulate traps used also happen to make good silencers!

The smoke on the pics is tyre smoke from locking the inside rear wheel.

Damn good looking car those.

I thought it was a TLA, no need for condescension.

Thanks anyway.

err no it wasnt, unless it had locked it inside rear wheel for an entire lap

I watched the entire footage on TV and only saw diesel exhaust smoke when they were on the start line.

Thats what I thought, My Grandad was an electrician for DOW chemicals for many years before he was made redundant.

Okay

the filters are made by Dow Automotive, who don't seem to have anything to do with Dow Corning

:)

Why is the car in front not smoking the same

saw the last race at brands hatch recently. i was watching the seats as i had almost forgot they were tdi's

shame one gave out on the first lap! lol!

they are pretty quiet vs the other cars we were really trying to listen out for the engine noise from the seat's but really couldnt hear them over the rest of the pack. also noticed the lack of soot. thought it could be some fancy single use filtering system.

Just saw the first Rockingham race

Awesome. That Civic went like a rocket though

Currently watching the footage now.

The second race was really good too!!!

Giovanni looks awesome too.

I wanna go see a Touring car race now. It looks like a return back to the good old 90s.

I remember when Volvos put the 850 estate out, that was a good laugh.

Has John Cleland retired?

I loved the seasons when Audi entered the A4 Quattro, shame BTCC banned quattro after two seasons.

I dont think the BTCC banned the Quattro.Audi canned it for standard 2WD as it had too much of a weight penalty

RWD cars had a 300KG penalty

and 4WD had a 90KG penalty not including the weight of the 4WD system.

They didnt half shift though!!!! Beila and who else drove for Audi?

Nope they banned it. Second season they had a weight penalty, but they still bossed the field, so third season it was banned.

John Cleland retired years ago.
