oil change octy 2 vrs

Featured Replies

Hi

Just looking for some help my car is an 06 octy vrs and has just turned 20k the last time it got serviced was 10k ago .

I just think 10k between oil change is a bit much .

Further to that my wife got an 08 octy 1.9tdi elegance not that long ago and they say the oil does not need changed for 20k i know oil tech has moved on but that still sounds a lot.

Anyway im going to change the oil on my vrs every 5/6k can anybody tell me where the oil filter hides and do you need any special tools also what type of oil would you lot say is the best for my 06 octy vrs.

Thanks for taking the time to read this i know it sounds like a bit of a rant by im just a little confused

Although not answering your question directly I am a little confused as why 10k between changes is a bit much. My Mk1 vRS was on variable servicing and never did less than 18k between oil changes and reached 80000 miles without a hiccup.

any decent motor will get 10k+ between oil changes no problems. 20+ with long life oils.

I fail to see any benefit, only unnecessary costs from paranoia

However in answer to your question the oil filter is located to the lower front of the engine. You'll need to remove the undertray to access it.

You can undo the screw cap and then use something to push up the drain valve to realease some oil before removing the filter housing.

Oil would be one that meets the VW spec quoted in your manual.

I do agree with everyone else that you are wasting your time and money but it's your car. The car is capable of measuring the oil quality and hence telling you when it needs to be serviced.

Thanks to those who took the time to reply

There is an argument for changing the oil early in the cars life to remove all the crap form the run in period.

Personally I have heard good arguments for changing it and not changing it.
