Hi advise please nephew just got A4 1600se,one of the breather pipes was faulty so repaired it,then some one pop round with a lap top & vag com to see if any faults but would not work,so he put another lead on with diff soft ware i think some think like vag tacho,and the light on the socket did not lite up,and we could see some think on lap top saying going to ground,any idears as the chap tryed it on is seat and was ok.

Sounds plausible, although I think the aftermarket radio problem ties the 'K' line to +batt rather than ground. Given the choice though, I'd say that the error message is wrong, and Stu's diagnosis is more likely

I could be way off the mark but lets clear up the simple things first.

I'm assuming the VAG-COM is known to work on other cars ok.

Thanks for your quick replyes its got the origianal radio but is dad noticed that when he was driving it back,that if he put the heated rear screen on it interfeard with radio,thought this mint have been with arial built into screen,Also the previous owner said the onboard comp some times works then doesent.And yes the vag come works on other cars,
