Has anyone come across this problem before? This is occuring on a Fabia 1.4, 51 plate

On tick over the headlights are flickering and a sound coming from under the bonnet, clearly audible in the car, the nearest description I can give of this is a chirping sound.

Listening under the bonnet it is difficult to identoify where the sound is coming from, but it sounds to be near the battery. All connections etc look to be OK, and have never had any trouble starting the car even when parked for over a week.

Flickering lights are a sure-fire sign of power steering angle sensor failure. This causes the power steering pump to move back and forth constantly, but only a fraction. As it moves, it drains power from the other electric systems (it runs at something like 30A!), and this causes the lights to flicker. It's probably also the cause of the noise...

It might just be a slipping alternator belt.

No, you should have hydraulic PAS - but the pump for the hydraulic system is electric!
